If York had tangled with Matt Martin, he'd still be here.
- Tomahawk

Or looked half decent on the 1 on 1 goal he got embarrassed on.

so was he and that's the problem
- black_francis

You might be right but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen York play this bad as he has this camp. I thought he might be allowed to play through it and why shouldn’t he be? This team is no the road to nowhere.

Sure it adds up! What if the Flyers re-signed Risto 4 years at $4M per, which is what Adam Larsson signed for in Seattle? I think then the conversation is very, very different. My point is for what Risto brings to the team, Fletcher is a baffoon to allocate that kind of money towards IMO. Now I suspect Torts and Shaw will coach him up a bit, but I don't see Risto ever living up to a $5M defenseman, at least by today's standards.
- jd250

No, the conversation isn't different. The Flyers would've still traded major future assets and re-signed a player who is basically a stiff to a 4 year deal. The next coaches in line to coach Ristolainen up.

Allison is still waiver exempt.

That's comforting

IF JVR shows some offensive moxie he may have some value.

Don’t do the jd250 shuffle.

really? So what other players have I been wrong about?
- jd250

Too many to mention. As I said previously. The rate is about 98%

How about Charlie McAvoy?

The SHG was actually less concerning to me then all the abysmal clear and transition attempts he had been guilty of prior.

Agreed, for what tho is the question. A mid round pick, maybe a third?
- ClaudeFather

If he has a decent goal scoring season. Probably at best a 3rd.

The entire board believes JvR has absolutely no value. MJL escapes from HB jail and disagrees. Entire board changes its tune.

It's not just money. Torts is the face of the franchise.
- Feanor

Being the "face of the franchise" doesn't really mean that much around here either.

See: JR, Carter, Richards, Hexy, Bryz, 88, Briere, Gagne, etc.

Even Bob Clarke's been fired twice.

So cutting Deslauriers‘ off is all it takes? So fight Matt Martin. A much bigger player of the opposing team is beating the crap out of one of the kids…
- SuperSchennBros

Because it’s a stiff for a stiff. That’s dumb. DLo should fight Anders Lee.

I don’t think you understand what a third round pick is. This isn’t some haul. He had zero value in the off season due to his cap hit. It’s universally understood that he could fetch a mid round pick at the deadline if he were to have a decent season. Your comprehension failure is evident.

As long as he’s scoring at his usual pace he’s got value on an expiring contract. I don’t see why he wouldn’t. Especially when you eat money off the deal.

Everyone knew this, some were confused by the off season fiasco making room for JG

There's a better way to explain it. JVR with a full year left with a 7M cap hit in the off season. Little to no value. JVR if he has a decent year at the trade deadline. Might have some value.

So I'm assuming the opening night 3rd pair will be Seeler-Braun. With the prospects in the upcoming draft, this D pairing is fine by me. Well done Torts/Fletcher. Reviewing the Flyers first 10 games, not a lot of Ws.

Unfortunately, Torts sees Seeler as the 6th best D man. No one else earned it.

Dramatic, abrupt changes in direction (often leading to nuclear levels of fallout) have been just as much part of the Flyers' brand as the Broad Street Bullies.

Connauton will be the 8th dman

Don't be surprised to see Anisimov playing with all the injuries. Torts loves this guy.

If he was a ufa this past summer I think hes a tryout at best. Maybe some team gives him league minimum

He will not be having a good year

The Flyers as a team are going to struggle to score but JVR has been a consistent goal scorer his entire career.

I don't think this decision is coming from just his play. there's a sense of entitlement they are trying to correct early
- black_francis

Agreed. It’s the coach’s job to assess the skill, ability, work ethic, and mental game. York, nor anyone else, wont just be handed the job. Get him minutes and experience just don’t Jack him back and forth like Frost last year. Make the kid hungry. Make him learn the right way to play. Also, he’s be stuck on the 3rd pairing every night in the NHL right now.
