Don't believe for a minute that Chuck and Torts have actually transitioned to a rebuild mindset.

They're gonna put together the lineup that gives them the best chance today. Both of their jobs are on the line.

Tomorrow is a distant consideration.

Torts is safe for at least a year or two.

It was but just let him play, there is nothing to lose at this point. In fact after getting smokes on that goal, probably better to leave him stay
- wcorvette

I don't think this decision is coming from just his play. there's a sense of entitlement they are trying to correct early

Deslauriers and MacEwen did a really great job protecting their rookie teammate from a veteran goon. Money well spent by Chuck.
- Feanor

Looked like Nic tried to get there but Martin cut him off.

A new GM would be able to choose his own coach, no?

Torts' fate is connected with Chuck.

If York had tangled with Matt Martin, he'd still be here.
- Tomahawk

Eye of the tiger baby!

Seriously tho, if York wanted to stay up he needed to show it. Didn't look like much of an effort last night.

There's no way they're going to pay AV and Torts not to coach at the same time.

Briere is going to be the next GM unless Comcast sells the team. So Torts is safe for sure.

Did they fire Kjell yet? If the kids can’t crack this poop roster then there’s a major developmental problem.

But hey, as long as the country club guys get their paychecks I guess we should all grin and bear it.

Absolutely untrue to argue against keeping 24-26 year olds solely because of their age. Have you even looked at the ages of entire rosters that have won the Stanley Cup in the last 10 years. Not all the impact players are 29 or older, but some most definitely are plus many supporting players. Such a weird idea.
- NC Flyers Fan

Yea the idea that to rebuild you have to jettison every older player is non-sensical.

Torts walks on his own terms. He’s not going to put up with this front office, not the other way around.

I cannot believe people think jvr has trade value. He is an under water asset. Even on the trade deadline of his final year
- Just5

If JVR scores at the level he did last season. He could be moved at the deadline.

When has money ever been a limiting factor here?

We're talking about the team that paid Briere and Bryz in the same summer to not play for them. Bryz is still on the payroll to this day.

Tortorella says that Attard and Zamula will probably go down at the end of camp. He thinks they both still need work. "But if you think I'm gonna send down Attard today after what he did yesterday, standing in there with Johnston (in a fight), you're crazy."

Gonna be at least one Cates and Hodgson making the team, I'd reckon. Just based on how much ice time and opportunity those guys have earned in preseason. Frost is a lock.

It feels to me like MacEwen and Allison are probably headed to waivers.

- Tomahawk

Allison is still waiver exempt.

Funniest part is that this likely means that Connauton would make the team, and Seeler's in the starting lineup

- Tomahawk

I wasn’t nearly as down on this team as everyone else until I read the last couple pages. I was certain heading into camp, Cam York was a lock.

To be clear I knew very little about Risto when the Flyers traded for him. I don't watch or follow the freak'n Buffalo Sabres after all. However I made the mistake of trusting that Fletcher and his staff did know about him and felt there was more there than the obvious advanced metrics deficiencies. So I gave him a shot and early on he looked good as I said, but as the season wore on it became clearer and clearer to me the best move for the Flyers was to trade Risto at the deadline. Alas, they didn't and here we are with probably a 60 point team and negative cap space.
- jd250

Speaking of reality, here it is. As a self proclaimed fact based person, why completely ignore the analytics? Ristolainen didn't look good overall at any point last season. You stood at the helm of the SS Risto the entire season piloting the ship. This wasn't some gradual evaluation process that you went through.

I told you in July of 2021 that the moves that Fletcher made were far more likely to hurt the Flyers future then to help it. You disagreed with me and claimed the moves put the Flyers on the path to the Cup.

So cutting Deslauriers‘ off is all it takes? So fight Matt Martin. A much bigger player of the opposing team is beating the crap out of one of the kids…

That's sad, that really is but there is a method to Tortorella's madness. It's transparent but it's comical that they have to resort to this. It's all there is.

It's not just money. Torts is the face of the franchise.
