If this team was smart they would move Sanheim at the deadline and really get going on this rebuild. Sanheim is a solid player, but this team is full of mediocrity. He’s one of the few that we can get a good return and we won’t be competing for anything in the next 5 years. No reason to extend him.

Ellis will be placed on LTIR. I'm unaware of any cap provision or cap rule that says you can only pay your defense in aggregate a certain amount. So they can afford to re-sign him. The question of whether they should or not based on the state of the team, is another question. The issue is that he is in the final year of his deal and there is flat cap environment with many teams at or near the cap. Which will limit the trade market for Sanheim if the Flyers decide to move him. Fletcher has missed the ball again with no foresight into the future of managing the cap. This is another example of how the moves that Fletcher has made, has handcuffed the team like you were told it would in 2021 instead of putting the team on the path to the cup like you claimed in 21.

all true, now they need to figure out the future. If the cap, like predicted will go up by 10 by 2025, they need to focus on getting there. Reset the team, draft high and hold the players who will be part of that future. I think Sanheim is one of those players, unless you get a kings ransom, you do what you can to hold onto him. I don't see a kings ransom at the TDL, the 1st, would be a late first, there would have to be a cant miss prospect included. They need to be focused on moving a contract, to do that, they need players to have bounce back years. There is no clear answer right now.

Reason is I watched him play for a season and evaluated what I saw. I do not think Risto is as bad as a defenseman as you and others, or the metrics, state he is. IN fact early on in the season I thought he played very well. However, I agree his hockey IQ is low, he sucks on the PK, offers very little offensively and as last season wore on his net front coverage got worse. By the end of the season, it was clear to me he should not be resigned and moved at the deadline. I was disappointed in him to be honest, he gave an honest effort and has the size, skating ability and shot to be a really good player, but it was clear he was not right for this team right now. Allocating $25M+ to Risto over 5 years was tragic for the Flyers IMO.

Your opinion now is not based on any player evaluation over time. It's based on you capitulating to the overwhelming majority of opinions on the player to save face.

Can Ellis be bought out if he is on LTIR?

Just stop .. you're wrong! Again, did you not learn anything while you timed out in the corner? Just take people at face value and have a respectful conversation. I was happy when the trade happened and Fletcher was being aggressive. It did not work out, let's leave it at that.

That's correct, instead of staring at a spreadsheet that I know most of you have no prayer of really understanding, I watch the games and evaluate that way. BTW, did you actually listen to Tort's speak this pre-season? If so then you heard the same thing from him.

There are many on here that understand the stats and can effectively use them. You recently claimed to be a fact based person. Out of the two examples, one being an individual's opinion on a player and the other being statistical evidence of a players performance. Which example represents the facts?

I haven't seen much of the pre season action but sources that I respect have stated that he has played well.

He has, more assertive on the puck and the walls, his hockey IQ is evident. He needs the right linemates and to convert

The others (McGuire, Sosa, Thome, and Bonds especially) are all cheaters and not only should be banned from the HoF, but should also have their records removed from the game. The true home run champ in my book is still Babe Ruth, who hit more home runs in less games than anyone else. I love Hank Aaron, but he he hit more home runs in about 4000 more at bats than Ruth!

The right linemates is imperative for 5 on 5. I think he will put up good power play stats.

You aren't getting a top 15 pick for JVR in whole or part of a trade. The Flyers can absolutely afford to re-sign Sanheim. There is no chance that Ellis will retire. Why would he?

If the timeline to make some type move is 3 years from now…. And assuming they actually collect some young talent during those 3 years…

Why in gods name would sanheim fit that timeline? He will be what 28? And either entering the timeline for a really big deal/term( which we keep doing that blows) or already signed (depending) on what he gets this contract.

Absolutely doesn’t fit this teams timeline. Same goes for provy tk risto even hart. Anyone in that 25-26 year old range now doesn’t match a timeline 3+years down the line. Not with this poop team.

Fetcher's entire approach is the issue rather than just a few individual players. I'm amazed at how Ristolainen in a short period of time has gone from a player who you claimed checked all the boxes, added an element the Flyers needed. Is the Flyers best defenseman and occasionally calling him one of the best defenseman in the league to now being a player who is signed to a ridiculous contract and isn't a good player.
- MJL

It's not amazing, imo. Eventually reality overcame hope and the thought process adapted to the reality.

I guess I missed something. I thought we were talking about those that passed Maris’ 61. Thome never hit more than 52. Agree that he didn’t juice.

Wait, so what happens if you watch the games AND look at spreadsheets?

Do they burn you as a witch?
