From a conceptual point, I don’t agree with this. In fact, particularly for defenseman, some training and seasoning can be essential. It just is not an easy position for all of them. However, our training and instructional approach leaves a lot to be desired. He may actually do better just being thrown in the deep end as you suggest. - iamscore2day
I agree it usually takes 3-4 years to develop a defenseman. Vlasic and Brodin made mistakes but they developed faster than normal. Maybe because they were defense first with little offensive skill early.
Someone suggested Jason Smith could help. I don’t know anything about his teaching but I liked the way he played the game. Western Michigan made it to the NCAA quarter finals and had a solid coach. Either Attard couldn’t or wouldn’t learn to play defense. He’s 23 and I would play him. Let’s see if he can swim. If not, move on.

Or maybe the coach used him as a rover and wasn’t as focused on his defensive game seeing what he can do offensively.
I do not think it was a case of him couldn’t or wouldn’t. |

But Hart will be fine to the regular season-opener! That means he will be ready to go after the ASG! 😁 |

Definitely could have used some more fight in his game, not actual fighting lol before someone jumps down my neck here - ClaudeFather
100% agree.
Missing that motivational chip on his shoulder that most good pro athletes have. |

Leave it to our marketing team to come up with a “soft knocks.” No wonder the product on the ice sucks.

I’m not sure how much of a fight Nolan Patrick can put up knowing that one hit could end his career.
Does anybody remember when Nolan Patrick fight David Krejci? He picked that fight. He wanted that fight. |

I think Hayes has been very lackluster this camp. |

SOROKIN saving Isles bacon 🥓 😋 And he will steal a ton of points on the many slow offensive nights for the Isles. |

Playing like a guy who knows he has a roster spot. But he should have been put on notice when Torts mentioned him by name hours after he was hired. That was a shot across his bow so to speak. It doesn't seem to have registered.

Various coaches have been trying to develop Risto for a decade. He’s taking longer to create than the roof of the Sistine chapel |

Players are not “afraid” of coach’s any longer. Especially ones making 7 per for the next 4 years guaranteed.
Players have much more for lack of a better word control now. |

Torts can make a statement if so he chooses. Strip him of his letter. Make him less available to the power play. |
