Slavkosky looks like the real deal to me, with his size and skating ability he should be a star in this league.
Don't see the point in starting the season in the NHL however. You made that mistake with KK and it didn't work out too well.

The Canadiens have agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract (2022-23 to 2024-25) with forward Owen Beck.

That is exactly what I was asking. Sometimes the deadwood stops you from seeing the light starting to break through. And, then, suddenly, poof, all the deadwood disappears and the kids have taken over. Fans that follow the team closely will see the progress. But, fans that follow other teams base their assessments on the last game played rather than what they see for the future.
- spatso

You specifically asked for top 6. Too many fans have been accused of saying our entire team was made up of 3rd to fourth liners. I'm not painting a firm picture two years into the future. We're pretty much locked on 3 out of those 6, who I named. I mentioned 3 others with real promise, but where they'll fall in the lineup is yet to be determined. It's not tunnel vision on the team, it's the reality of the current rebuild in progress. Best case? We move contracts for assets that will help fill that 4-9 role. We get rid of dead wood. (Cough*Hoffman*Cough).
That opens up a large amount of salary cap room to be aggressive in the free agent market. And HuGo isn't shy about making hard moves for the betterment of the future.
So yeah, I dunno. Sue me.

It's really hard to say right now. We have a LOT of dead wood coming off the books, and we don't know where the future lies with players like Dadonov and Monahan. Both have potential to be re-signed, but are they up to snuff? This season will tell us a lot about where we're going.
The givens are Suzuki, Caufield, and Slaf. Mesar, Heineman, and Beck are in the future, but how far down and how long until they're up remains to be seen.
The next deadline, free agency, and draft will pretty much lock in the next 3 years, I'm guessing. But it's too hard to say right now.

Dadonov is 33 years old. He's gone at the deadline (hopefully he plays better than last night, ooof)

I was reassured a bit. He showed more skill yesterday.

Still throws bad Kotkaniemi memories my way though

Yeah well he's a 18 years old 6'4 230 lbs guy, think he's got good coordination for a guy that big this young. He'll need some time to get used to all of it, I'm not worried.

He's already much faster and explosive than KK, better hands and skates with his head up, doesn't take 30 seconds to release his shot, in the bay window.

Maybe. Maybe he earns another year while the kids develop. That's my bottom line. We're not magically going to become a cup winning team by moving Dadonov and Monahan at the trade deadline. If they can give us 15-20 goals for this season, and maybe next? (At a more reasonable 1-2 year contract, max...) I say take it, and reap the benefits of a bad season or two, and some expiring contracts.

Most contacts that fans would like to move are ones that would be hard to move right now.

Why would a team pick up Hoffman off waivers right now?

I guess they could try to ''bury'' a few guys in Laval, but they would not save that much on the cap anyway.

If we don't shoot him into the sun before the season begins, I will hate Mike Hoffman all season.

What a (frank)ing dreadful signing by Bergevin.

At this point it's not even about the cap.

We're bound to waive someone, might as well be Hoffman.

Let him rot in the AHL until injuries happen and we need someone to make turnovers for us.

He had one his terrible summer of 2017 that crippled the team for years (still kinda does with Alzner and Price's contracts).

He managed to have another one before getting fired.
