Seriously, right? There are 5 guys unsigned I’d take over him

waiver day, I guarantee Bjork is interchangeable with some of those guys.

I'm pretty sure that was part of my point several days ago. Small mistakes and a refusal to improve any where you can are infuriating. I do not see the need to carry a warm body because he's a warm body. Sometimes the Sabres have such a cavalier attitude as if they were sitting on multiple cup runs.

I don't agree with the concept you're discussing. The 13th, 14th forward is not supposed to be an everyday guy. You want a cheap guy, who can play 30-40 games, to jump in, do some things right, essentially blend in with his quiet good play. You don't want prospects rotting on the bench. It's standard asset management.

Also, Bjork or his replacement are hardly moving any needles. But it would be nice to get a forward in his stead that at least doesn't heavily damage your team like he does.

I'm a little surprised Vinnie signed back up to be that backup forward. I think he's an every day player. He must truly like it here.

Analytically he's very strong.

So I finally get around to reading this thing from Lance, and all I keep thinking about is..

The Sabres don't want to risk losing Bjork to waivers?

How (frank)ing hard is it to replace him. No, seriously. How hard is it.

- TheSabresTaco

Sonny Milano had 14 goals last year. Released from PTO

Bjork had... checks notes...

I'd rather platoon young players who've not separated themselves, but it's certainly not the only way to skin a cat. I'd also rather keep an eighth defenseman with the team than Bjork. The guy is simply dead weight. I can't believe the Sabres actually think he wouldn't clear waivers. Lance is pulling that out of his rear end IMO.

I reserve the right to lambaste any of them because so few of them solve problems rather than create and perpetuate them.

- lacaprup

Agreed
But Hockeybuzz is NOT the forum for that

Why is it such a big deal for you to take that sort of thing elsewhere???

Milano, playing with Zegras, had a career year last year. Analytically he blew it out of the (frank)ing water. He was positive in all situations.

His goals above stats were normally 1-2 but that shot to 10 on Anaheim.

Replacing Bjork with Milano would not only save you money (waiver claim) but would also provide 2-3 wins.

So what's a guy with such a great year doing as a UFA?

Money has to be the reason. He should have been bought out this summer as it would have only had a $50k impact on the cap (which wouldn't matter even if it were $5m).

Regardless of our views of roster setup, Lance was caught watching at the plate. Guys who get constantly surpassed in the lineup are often trade bait. There has clearly been no interest. And Sam Ventura can clearly tell everyone how his data stacks up.

I really don’t see the point in debating who the 14th forward is

Especially since I’d assume one of the prospects would be brought up to play ahead of him if it was gonna be something more than a game here or a game there

Whoever the guy sitting in our pressbox most nights is, will not be the determining factor that moves this team forward

But doing what’s best for the development of our young talent will
And it’s pretty damn hard to develop if your sitting in the pressbox

Point taken but if you have an opportunity to swap out your 14th forward and make an improvement, make the change.

Last year, the 14th forward by games played was Mittelstadt with 40 games.

I don’t need 40 games of Anders Bjork

One of the best things about Brandon Beane is that he doesn't hold onto his mistakes to save face. Bjork didn't work and they should have moved on during the offseason.

Do u think there’s any way that Bjork plays anything close to 40games this year?

I’d be surprised if he plays in 10

I read some things from Ana guys.. They seem to think for every goal he scored he was at least in part responsible for two against. That was their portrayal, I watched maybe two Ana games so I can't comment on it beyond that perhaps GMs see playing with Zegras bumped scoring, but the actual player was still bad.

You clearly didn’t read the article, Bjork has much more to give. Why would his plan be to play 10 games? That’s a bad plan.

The 14th forward for the Sabres over the past three years in games played:

Mittelstadt- 40
Asplund- 28 in a 56-game season (41 game pace)
Asplund - 29 in 69 (35 game pace)

So recent history suggests the 14th forward will play somewhere between 35 and 40 games

Can cut without money being spent vs still needing the swedish chef to get to the floor. Also when you are the rev driver, if you do need to spend money you can point to the money being brought in. Just a couple of reasons.

Saying we need 40 games of Bjork is like saying we need more carries from Zack Moss in Bills games 😆😂
