Shane Wright could be up there...

I also knew you were gonna hurt me along the way.

Jays talk is better than the minutae of the Leafs' depth players and cap wiggle room. 6 months of takes about Holl, Kerfoot and Chychrun, sick
- Zezel

Agreed. The team should've done us all a favour and traded Holl long ago and traded for Chychrun at the same time.

Would've saved a lot of talking about it and the team would be a lot better, too.

Well Matthews is the best current goal scorer in the league.

I don't mind settling with Caufield ending up being a close 2nd.

- Scabeh

What's the expectation on how many he scores this season from people? Fans and the team.

'Cause I feel like it's a lot higher than what I think he's gonna score.

Except they failed and lost in the first round.

Their shutdown pairing wasn’t good enough.

- Dozzer

they can't be on the ice for the whole 60 minutes.
other defenders can be on the hook for bad plays.

Nah. I've not had it close to that short since I was a child.

I've still got inches of hair.

I won't dare speak for every Habs fan but I think it's highly possible he scores 30 goals this year.

My guess would be 33.

It's great to hear you've been going to your chiropractor.

Yeah, he's really relieving me of that disposal income problem.

Seriously, a friend of mine was almost paralyzed by one of those crooks. Chiropractic is an absolute scandal.

They were the pairing the winning goal of game 7 was scored against.

At the risk of being banned, I do find it funny that this site generates hours upon hours of us armchair GMs figuring out trades for our 7th defenceman.

Just watch the game, nerds. Dubas ain't reading this.

- Atomic Wedgie

So limit ourselves to useful arguments. Got it. Since the bottom line got crushed in the playoffs I choose to focus my armchair time on cap space decisions on who gets in.

I’ll get to your very important prediction thread shortly

Just imagine what real problems we could solve, if we could only harness the raw mental power of Hockeybuzz:

Lol so he gets excuses but the guy who makes a third of what he does doesn’t?

Nah… typical leaf fan stuff… make excuses for the guys that you like and put the blame on the guys with a minor role.

This team is Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Rielly, Muzzin, and Brodie. The rest of the team, including the goalies, are the supporting type. So if the leafs don’t get the job done it’s on those 7 for 95% of the blame.

I’ll never see it otherwise. If the 4 forwards making half the cap can’t put a couple in the net, and the two d man being primarily used in a shutdown role can’t ensure that TB wouldn’t score when the game was tied no matter what it took (including taking a penalty) the leafs are not going to win.

Making it sound like guys like Holl, Kerfoot, and Engvall are the problem sounds absurd. I’m sorry but it does.

Ok, yeah. That's much more in line with how I think. I've seen some crazy predictions.

My guess is somewhere between 24-32. Don't know if I can put an actual number on it, but somewhere in that neighbourhood. Maybe more if things go his way.

If those 2 donkeys had just been as good as Nick Paul the Leafs would have won 5-2!!!!!

Oh I give up.

The leafs need their core to step up to get further… the days of blaming the most versatile mid 6 forward and the 5th d man are over. They’re not the ones who win a damn series for a team lol

Game 7 hurt - Leafs out shot, out hit and had more faceoff wins than Tampa. They managed to hold all the big Tampa offensive threats off the board entirely (not even an assist) while Nick Effin' Paul had the game of his life and they lost.

The fact none of the big name / big star players on EITHER team scored (ok Reilly but he's not expected to score every game) and Matthews and Marner got an assist on the one goal shows you how close the game really was.

Maybe it was Vasy>Soupy or maybe the bottom 6 of Tampa > The Leafs bottom six, to me it was some of column a and some of column b but that easily could have been a Leafs win.

The good news is "the will figure it out next season" time is nearly upon us.

Oh I know and it’s why I blame the core forwards.

It’s game 7, you’re expected to score. An assist isn’t enough, no points is terrible. This is where you make your millions. If you can’t get the job done in a game like that you’re not a true proven superstar in my eyes.

Matthews is winning awards good for him but until he proves he can carry a team when needed I’m seeing him as a star but not a superstar. That’s the difference between the two types.

I completely agree. They are con-men/women.
