None of the guys who are starters in the regular season played a physical game last night cept for Bunting which doesn’t surprise me lol
Tbh my primary concern is that they won’t be able to afford to keep Robertson up to start the season and that sucks… even more than some of you guys think Holl does lol - Dozzer
Bunting is such a poophead, eh?
Like, I don't know how the guys on other teams don't just straight up punch him every shift. |

For the record I'm totally fine with Holl in the bottom 4-6 most nights. They need to move some $$ (unless Lilly and another big contract goes LTIR). Holl, Kerfoot and Engvall are the only real options to move out. I don't see Kerfoot going with JT's health in question. Engvall ...maybe. Holl ...maybe. |

Yeah, he hasn't had Tavares there to take the harder matchups that freed him up. Been tough going for him ever since, in that regard. |

Hey if they can land another defensive rightie for their backend I’m all for it let’s be clear here - Dozzer
They might not have a choice.
Seems like it'll be either Engvall or Holl going before Monday's cap compliance deadline.
If they don't put JT on LTIR they have to trade one of those players, no ifs ands or butts. They don't have the cap space.
Unless someone gets injured this weekend. |

I like Barzal. He's for sure a good player. But I don't think he's a star. But, maybe he'll break out under a new coach.
If he does break out, then the contract could be good. But if he stays what he is, I think it's too much. |

No moving Kerfoot when all that would be needed would be to replace him with another player of versatility
No moving Holl unless it’s for another cheap rightie D man
As for Engvall, why would they resign him if their intention is to move the guy? He has a very long reach which is good for the 3rd line.
If the leafs choose to move someone it won’t be one of those 3 unless someone else has proven they’re capable of their jobs |

It’s going to be something bigger… neither one of those two clear enough cap space for when Liljegren gets back and he’s already skating |

Yup. He's also a Richard. You see after the first Nylander goal? Gets right in the guys face talking poop. |

They have to trade one.
Unless they want to make JT miss another 6-7 more games than he has to...which for a star veteran would not be a good idea. It's already unfortunate he starts his season late as it is.
I did the math earlier. They can not go past Monday without one of those players gone or playing a man short opening night. |

Oh I know but that’s why I’m happy he’s on the leafs… they need a guy like that to piss off the other team and get them taking bad penalties |

Lil had a hernia surgery, he is out 6 weeks from September 21st.
With him on LTIR they still need to move out cap space before Mondays deadline. |

That's ignoring the Cap discussion we've been having. They either find another body to go on LTIR or they have to move a contract. And this already assumes that the roster fodder (Simmonds and Cliffy) are out so they are not options. |

For sure. Be nice if they called more of the poop that happens to him, though.
He does dive/embellish a lot but he also gets sticked in the face and crosschecked a lot. Even got slew-footed last night. |

They could replace Engvall tomorrow with any other guy, and you wouldn't even remember he was here.
He's not a bad player.

Here's my post from 10am (IE. fully caffeinated)
The current cap crunch ...
If it's only Lilly on LTIR to start the year then their cap extends to 83.9.
Current goalies = 6.487M
Current 7 D = 23.725M
Forwards (11) = 52.555M
That totals 82.98M leaving them $920k to sign or slot in the 12th forward. Not sure if ZAR would sign for that? Then, when Lilly's back they need to drop back down to 82.5 by cutting a d'man making 1.4M or more (or maybe new LTIR becomes available by then).
Putting Engvall or JT on LTIR would alleviate a lot of cap strain.
Or, if possible, moving Holl or Kerfoot. |

Option 1: trade Holl, Kerfoot, or Engvall
Option 2: Play a man short for the first 3 games and send Robertson down
Option 3: Put JT on LTIR and have him miss 6-7 more games
Option 3 is the worst for the Leafs and Tavares
Option 2 would not be ideal and Robertson has earned his spot
Option 1 is the least problematic and we even get some value back |

Not sure I agree to that extent but with Robertson and Malgin having good camps and ZAR likely being signed he might be the guy to go.
Likely they move Holl before Monday and they hold onto Engvall as long as they can. With other injuries they may not even have to move him. |
