Poulin looks night and day from last years camp. His skating is noticeably improved.
- madmike71

Not just skating, but the move to center seems to have really agreed with him. Wonder if he can possibly be a 3C at some point.

Every GM in the NHL right now would take Archibald over Z. Every coach would play Archibald over Z and every roster would appreciate Archibald over Z.

Love reading this.....I have had zero luck with pre season streaming...haven't caught a second of action. Obviously the Pens cupboards are bare, that truthful narrative has been beaten to death, however I still like watching preseason for seeing guys like him and different lineup looks.

Really good. Rutta kinda sucks.

He's the new whipping boy....we went from over priced LD to overpriced RD in a year.

Servalli saying that we e offered Joseph to every team in the league and no one wants him haha

I was wondering about us trading him/Ruhwedel/Friedman. 2 teams rumored to be looking for D help are Vancouver (who know both POJ and Ruhwedel well), and Arizona.

It would have to be for futures....I believe the Pens are like 730k over the cap today as I write this...and the Canucks are 2.7 mill over. I'm not sure if they have guys to toss on LTIR, or not, though. Seems as of today they are one short for a full roster as well 22/23...

Fair enough. That kind of cheap RHD has some value, but it wouldn't be a deathblow to their season
- Tojo.

Don't get me wrong, I think Ruhwedel should be the 3rd pairing RD for the entire season. I don't really understand why Sully is so hesitant to give him that role permanently but if you're looking at it from the coach/GMs perspective, he's definitely closer to the plug side of things as are most 4th liners/3rd pairing dmen.

Yeah here were his comments too:

"Some of these I /personally/ am quite skeptical about - it loves the Isles D and Goaltending so so much, is very mean to the Kings' special teams, adores Kuemper, and is very pleased with the Bruins.

Happy to answer any questions about how certain teams ended up where they did.

(If you're wondering how things have gone with this model in the past, it was 2nd-best in 2021 and roughly middle of the pack in 2022. as with every model, seattle was a killer last year)

if you wanted my personal opinion, I agree with the peanut gallery that it is too high on BOS/WSH/NYI/VAN/WPG, too low on LA/CAR/TOR.

but i suppose we shall see. some interesting coaching and goalie changes that could lead to some unexpected results"

Even though it wouldn't get them under the cap, a cheap defenseman sounds like it would help Vancouver if they could drop another defenseman elsewhere.

Agree and it's frustrating. They'd easily be able to keep 23 and have some extra room. Could have kept POJ and either Friedman or Zohorna. Have already lost one and could potentially lose all 3 to waivers just to have Ruuta over a capable Ruhwedel.

It is amazing how quickly things fell off the rails for you guys

And its a good example of why I never advocated for a full rebuild while our core was alive and playing at a good level. Not every rebuild will go like the Penguins' rebuild in the early 2000s. The draft changes made will make a rebuild like that nearly impossible unless you get some unbelievable draft luck

Just gotta tank for Gavin McKenna. 2026. We've got a few years.

And even before those draft changes, you could be the Oilers…

Eh sullivan winning the Jack is a whole lot more realistic than Letang winning the Norris. We’re super old and pretty underwhelming too to bottom and Silly’s a great regular season coach. If he takes this underwhelming squad and banks a ton of points he could get some consideration especially since he’s never won it and some life time achievement vibes can go into these things.

Oh yeah, I wasn't serious at all lol but yeah Sully probably deserved a Jack Adams in one of this seasons, I could definitely see them giving it to him as a life time achievement but the Pens have to finish first in their division for that.

Not entirely bare. Just from camp and preseason, besides Poulin, I could see any one of O’Connor, Puustinen,Hallender,Legare,Andonovski,Nylander and Olson being called up and not looking out of place. There is also Svejkovsky,Pickering,Ansons,Glover and a few others who could soon be knocking on the door.
