Pronman's list:

Josh Mahura, LD
Connor Mackey, LD
Juuso Valimaki, LD
Shane Bowers, C
Riley Tufte, LW
Tyler Benson, LW
Jaret Anderson-Dolan. C/LW
Lias Andersson, F
Gabe Vilardi, C
Fabian Zetterlund, RW
Pierre-Olivier Joseph, LD
Alex Alexeyev, LD

Out of those names, Vilardi would be a nice pickup.

Lot of fans wanted their teams to take Alex Nylander, but I think he cleared today.

If the Kings place Vilardi on waivers and the Flyers can't grab him because of Deslauriers or MacEwan, I'd be pretty upset.

Vilardi and Benson are the only names I recognize. Doesn’t mean that there’s not a good player there. Hopefully we have a chance at a reclamation project.

Aside from those two, there's a number of other guys who are on NHL contracts that shouldn't be. Looking at ex-Wild players Seeler and Belpedio in particular. Also have no idea what they see in Hodgson. Connauton also shouldn't be back.

Flyers should be near 45/50 instead of 49/50 right now.

The thing that has bothered me most about this team the past few seasons is their horrible lack of foot speed. Against Boston the other day, who BTW is at best an average skating team, the Flyers looked really, really slow. They got beat to almost every puck and I think the big reason the Flyers cannot generate offense is they have no one in the lineup that can actually beat a defender 1 on 1. The Flyers have got to put an emphasis of getting players with foot speed IMO.
- jd250

I don’t think it’s all about foot speed but needing guys that can skate well. Included is having decent speed that can push defenders back so you don’t have to always dump and chase.
The next issue is what do you do with that next step once you get into the offensive zone.
It seems that the flyers players forget to get into the seems and then get the puck in a timely manner.

It's even more frustrating when you see the Canes signing De Haan for $75k more than Seeler. This franchise just lacks creativity for roster construction and finding help on the margins. They could've had TDA last year for nothing and instead had to give up assets for him and then give him $5mil this year.

Hodgson I'd be more OK with if they didn't already have players of his mold like MacEwan, Deslauriers above him on the depth chart. Just more redundant pieces to be 'harder to play against'.

If the Flyers claimed Vilardi (whom I like), it'd take maybe a week before fans started griping about his skating and inconsistency. But I think it'd be a justifiable decision.

I dunno. Vilardi is looking like a bust. Last year was supposed to be his breakout year but it was a disaster. They sent him down to transition to wing. He didn’t produce when he was called up late in the year. I would consider taking a look at Valimaki.

Due to his unavailability to fulfill his contract, the Flyers could toll Fedotov. In that case, I don't believe his contract would count against the 50 contract limit this year.

Also, JR Avon will slide to the OHL.

For sure, but he's got good hands, finishing ability and off-puck intelligence.

That's more than you can say for a lot of other guys the Flyers have possibly making the cut.

I am shocked Zack Fucale hit waivers. He's a goalie I thought would find his stride but has been slow to translate.

Flyers full at LHD though waive seeler claim POJ

I said weeks ago it’s a disgrace at 49 as there will be solid guys to take a shot with.

Signing so many ahl vets wasn’t needed. ZM wasn’t needed. Seeler and KC wasn’t needed.

Valimaki showed promise in the Flames organization for a bit. I think I remember him as a first rounder.

I recall Lias Andersson’s name as well.

This roster is looking like it should skate out to The Roper’s theme song for warm ups.

Wouldn't a smart proactive GM already have done that? Especially seeing he signed a 3 year deal with a Russian team. My guess is Chuck doesn't even know he did!

He made the 3rd pair on the Flames at the beginning of last season. Sutter thought Zadorov was a better fit with Gudbranson. He resembles Kylington in going back and forth between the AHL. Maybe he needs a change. Imo Valimaki would upgrade the Flyers 3rd pair.

I don't think camp has been disorganized. I do think 70 players in camp at the beginning was too many.

There has been a specific purpose to each day. But there has been lots and lots of skating/conditioning so far -- which DOES pay a dividend if you keep at it, while other teams back off early -- and only one day of in-depth systems work (apart from video sessions). Add in all the upper-lineup injuries. It's definitely played out during games where they can't move the puck --- the puck always moves faster than anyone can skate -- and they seem low on energy.

That will happen when you have a no-pucks 30 min skating test on day one followed by a day 2 scrimmage plus 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 rush-heavy practice plus a conditiong skate plus off-ice dryland training on Day 2, a game night on Game 3 (with a practice for the non-game guys) on Day 3, plus a scrimmage/on-ice practice/conditioning skate on Day 4. One off-day then back-to-back game nights. One off-day then a practice (first systems day) plus conditioning skate, then back-to-back game day/ nights. Doesn't make for very energetic games or ready evaluation, as Tortorella himself readily admits.

They've defended better and generally gotten good goaltending. So that's a start. But even with injuries aside and it being preseason, the offense needs a ton of work to even get to the upper end of the bottom one third.

- bmeltzer

No offense but the whole conditioning thing is a huge load of crap.

Players are in best shape ever. They train all year. There is absolutely NO need for torts torture camp. Conditioning isn’t the issue.

Yes you need some structured conditioning. Every team does. Notice NO other team did some stupid torture camp? All it causes is injuries down the line.

There's a chance, yes. He prefers playing a wing but will center if asked.

Thanks. Interesting about the playing wing preference. Has he been played with Laught at all..anyone?

It is an absolute disgrace how Fletcher has managed assets. The trading of draft picks for useless players, and the signing of useless UFAs get all the press. However, the number of contract slots gets overlooked but can be just as devastating.......

With Tuo and Avon sliding they are at 49, I believe. Total contracts per CF is 51....
