Provorov did not look like the best overall D on the roster last night. Or last season. And Risto had two horrible turnovers along the wall, continuing his career long habit of making egregious unforced errors.

I actually think the best way to set up the D would be

Sanheim-DeAngelo
Provorov-Braun
York-Risto

- Feanor

Braun needs his minutes limited to be effective. I think this coaching staff will have the tunnel vision on certain players. Nothing wrong with trying diff combos. They seem intent no matter what to force Ivan and Tony D as a top pair.

How embarrassing for the GM to see Risto on the 3rd pair if that happens. Will also be interesting to see if the coach benches Risto at any point.

This team is going to lose more 2-0, 2-1 and 3-1 games this season than most bad soccer teams.

And they’ll be just as exciting to watch as most soccer teams too.

Clean house from top to bottom or sell the damn team. It’s been a decade of garbage and I think most of the fanbase has had enough. This organization deserves zero faith, zero respect and, most importantly, zero of our hard earned dollars.

When will you and others realize they will not sell the team unless they put the arena up for sale as well. Cant see that happening.

Then fire everyone, or not, I really don’t care that much anymore. I was, key word was, a diehard fan, but not anymore. If they enjoy being the laughingstock of the NHL and dwindling attendance, hey, more power to them.

The Flyer's brass is the real example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

For sure. Chuck Fletcher is proof positive that the Peter principle is real.

This isn’t critical, I am just not there yet. Close enough to peek around the corner though. I am a little worried that I would go from diehard to “ghost of Christmas past” vibe and haunt the Flyers fanbase for the rest of my days.

Please no…

Pairings based largely on one single preseason game would be a big mistake.
- NC Flyers Fan

Risto has 10 years of bad defensive results that indicate the less minutes he gets, the better. Paying $5.1m for a 3rd pairing dman is dumb, but we have a dumb GM, so what can you do.

Sanheim has been outplaying Provorov for a full year now.

The likelihood of what you want to happen is not good as we all know. They have to be the dumbest most delusional management team in all of sports.

Without a doubt. My expectation is that Fletcher gets “promoted” and Briere is the new GM. That’s it, and nothing will change.

I’m all for trying different pairings when/if the time comes. I especially would want a Provy-Sanheim top pairing tried. However, it is two weeks until opening night. You try a pair in preseason more than once and you give time for everyone to knock off the rust. Risto played mostly with Sanheim last season. Got to give the other pairings time to see how they do before any shuffling. Deciding that they can’t work after one preseason game together is extremely shortsighted.

No idea what Ristolainen was doing on that turnover leading to the third goal. Still in shock Chuck gave up multiple picks and $5 mil against the cap for this guy.

How about Risto's work on the PK? Abysmal!

I honestly believe the only coach that can salvage Risto for the Flyers is John Tortorella. Completely selfish and reckless decision to resign Risto by Fletcher, just to save his own face. A fire-able offense right there.

Well worth a first, a second, and a roster player, don't you think?

Another 3-1 loss? When was the first 3-1 loss?
- WhiskeyMan

my point is you are going to see a lot of games like this score this season 3-1, 2-1, 2-0, etc .. low scoring games because the Flyers will be a better defensive team, but on the wrong side of most of them because this lineup can't score.

It remains to be seen how much better they will be defensively. Better sure. How much is the question.

If they do the unthinkable and fire Chuck, there should be a long search of interviews with execs from Colorado, TB, Carolina, Florida, etc. They shouldn't just give Briere the job because he was interviewed by Montreal that one time and took night classes at Penn (and yes I realize his job is way more involved now and basically ran the ECHL team a couple of years ago, I'm being facetious).

But, this is the Flyers, and you're probably right. Fletcher will get the Holmgren treatment and Briere will move right into his position without incident.

Exactly what we want, no?

Ratcliffe, going to be hard, he is not making a case to stay and I can see Hextall grabbing him.

- wcorvette

I don't see Hexy grabbing him off waivers. Pens would have to keep him in the NHL and he's not better than anything they have on their roster.

That's how I'll determine if they're serious about the change or if Chuck is just the fall guy. They need to clean house.

Who cares if Hextal grabs him been saying for years he doesn't have NHL wheels. Can't keep up and never will be any better
