He can be moved at the TDL but it will take shrewd GMing or a desperate team to give up a 2nd. Toronto realized that JVRs value was almost exclusively tied to the PP.

In his first three seasons back in Philly he scored at 2.34 ESP/60 which was only slightly lower than Giroux.

Thank God that is a parody account.

Shaw did have a pretty solid interview there today. Was good to hear him go into specifics about individual d men. I liked his assessment of Provorov and that he wants more out of the rest of the d men behind him. I also liked that he was honest about Tony D in saying he's being tasked with a new role, going against top pairs every night is a completely different animal, and there's potential for it to go south. Nobody asked him about Risto though lol.

Yeah, but Couturier and Vorachek are ahead of him too. Even Grant but it’s too small a sample. JVR is a rental. He’s only played in the playoffs once in the last 4 seasons scoring 2 points in 12 games. Could happen but I don’t see a 2nd being likely at all.

Let's me start off by saying I would not trade for or sign JvR of today for 7m per...

But with an expiring contract, 50% retained at the TDL and pushing for the playoffs...hell yeah. Far worst 1 dimensional players have gotten more than a 2nd round pick in the past.

Team needs PP help or depth due to injury? Yeah that's most teams come playoff time. As long as JvR isn't injured and having an ok season 15-20 goals...yeah I'm asking for a 1st to start and go from there. Yeah I know people are going to say "He's not worth a 1st!!". I get it you're used to watching a loser team and no one on the team is worth anything, but people pay more come TDL. Otherwise you settle for something else depending on demand.

If he blows this year then the team eats it and moves on.

I will be shocked if JVR gets a 2nd with retention. For some reason I think him and Braun finish the year as Flyers.

Sanheim I cant wait to see what he may bring back. Will be interesting to follow.

- furio16

I can’t wait to see the deal philly gives him and the term. Yet another useless contract on a poop team to further screw the cap flexibility in the future.

So you are telling me that you know for a fact that Chucky didn't try to trade JVR or if he did, teams didn't ask for draft picks as well.

I am sure Chucky tried to move him but was not willing to give up picks. JVR will be worth more at the trade dealine.

I am getting sick and tired of the arm chair GM's on this site, it's like they think they know more or better. If they did they should be a GM and not some dumbass sitting in a chair.

- WhiskeyMan

I don't think any of us are good friends with Bob Clarke or Hayes which appear to be the only requirements for getting signed by this team in management or as a player.

The Flyers will hit and fight a lot this year. Which should be entertaining. Let’s bring back the broad street bullies. Torts won’t let them get pushed around. They won’t win many games but they won’t be soft to play against

There is no way he gets a 1st at the TDL. I don’t even see a 2nd in a stacked draft. Maybe Fletcher can finagle a 2nd in 2024. Guys that score in front of the net in the playoffs are the Corey Perry types. JVR is too old with too little grit. GMs will be realistic about what he brings.

Great article from the hockey writers.

https://thehockeywriters....dicament-couturier-ellis/

It hurts to read, but its factual and paints a bleak picture financially for the Flyers. Its clear Fletcher is completely over his head and therefore at the first opportunity, the Flyers need a new GM and president that knows how to get out of the deep hole Fletcher has dug for this franchise.

Chuck Fletcher's kid will probably be ready to take over from his dad as GM by the time Couturier comes off the cap because you know it's all about nepotism/cronyism in the Flyers executive suites.

I took my leaf fan son to the game. When we were driving home he said how he loved how the flyer players fought even though they loss. Small win for me

Old time hockey won't help the kids progress in the current century but Comcast might make a few shillings in the short term while totally screwing their longterm even more.

Anyone feel like looking up how Past Torts teams ranked in terms of penalty minutes per year?

Torts not a huge fan of fighting. Many fans also seem confused about what the coaches version of tough to play against constituents.

Setting expectations. It’s a point of view that says a lot about our current management team.

Just looking at his time in Columbus, the Jackets were consistently one of the least penalized teams in the league. He took over mid-season and that team finished with the 3rd highest penalty minutes in the league. From there on out, his teams finished with the 9th, 3rd, 2nd,2nd and 6th fewest penalty minutes for each season. A pretty drastic turn around. Anybody thinking this team is going to fight and be the broadsheet bullies is sadly mistaken.

Does the GM and the advisors realize this?

That’s why I wonder how long a rope an ND and ZM get. With the assumption the GM has them on the roster.

Thanks for the info.
