Long contracts don’t matter to Holland. Draisaitl is under contract for two more years and McDavid for another year after that. Hyman wants 7 years? No problem. Nurse forever, Jack for 5? Let’s go for it now cause I’m gone the second Connor says adios
- Canada Cup

If McDavid ever decided to leave Edmonton, Holland should resign on the spot.

I've been waiting for Anderson to do something, never does. I think he's fallen down the depth chart. Same with Abruzzese, he was a wasted spot last season when he was up with the Leafs. Either of them seem to "make anything happen" when they're on the ice. IMO.

I feel Steeves and Homberg have shown much more so far.

Joey Anderson wasn't good enough to crack the Devils roster, I don't think he'll amount to much here.. There was a lot of hype around him at the time of the deal (myself included) because he was team captain of the U.S junior team, but from what I've seen from him, I don't think he'll ever be a full time NHLer with the Leafs

Sandin “I’m ready to sign now, Mr Dubas.”
“We’ll get back to you, Rasmus. Pridham just redid the numbers.”

I'm penciling him in at 1x1. Why is he still holding out for nickels and dimes if he wants to be here? I gotta think if this was a play to get moved the agent would have put that out there.

I think he's a low ceiling guy. He can probably play right now on a 4th line. His problem is he's a dime a dozen type and he's been under team control until now. If he gets waived I think he'll get a job in the NHL as a 4th liner.

Opportunities for Robertson, Holmberg and Malgin. That bottom 6 screams Ahl/waivers.

Gio-Brodie ...with their first look together since the trade?

When it comes to the Oilers, having two of the best forwards in the game on the team is obviously going to mask a lot of their team deficiencies. RNH is good, and @ $5m, I don't think his contract is that bad. Hyman, we all like - but his contract is probably too long, but the AAV is close to right. Now that Kane has settled with the Sharks and has contractual security with the Oilers, he'll probably go back to being an asshat, but I guess we'll have to see.

The bad contracts for the Oilers are really Nurse, Ceci and unfortunately probably Campbell.

I don't think the Oilers are a well constructed team, and I don't really think of them as contenders - but McDavid and Draisaitl are difference makers. McDavid and Draisaitl beat the Flames last year - in 5 games, Draisaitl had 17 points, and McDavid had 12. The rest of the team went along for that ride - but if Leafs could get their stars to dominate like that, we wouldn't be complaining about the rest of the team being passengers.

- Monkeypunk

I am a trust the process guy, a run from Mcdavid and Dri going off? Not really a recipe to give you the best chance to win every season imo.

The Oilers were in some hot water mid last year, it wouldn't surprise me to see it happen to them again but not come out of it.

Bottom line for me is Mcdavid and Dri are amazing but the rest of the team really isnt built well...which is unfortunate because imagine what could have been?

I asked for the conversation in here to stick to hockey or at least sports nicely once. As a result deletion of any post outside of those parameters will be the minimum that will occur for those who can't do so.

Just not a 4th liner here though, with the Leafs.. I am hoping that the Leafs can sign ZAR and then develop a consistent 4th line

Don't know who Douglas is, but if he's looking for a fight, Xhekaj has been known to answer the bell.

Good defenseman too.

Is he a fighter?

I must confess I have only seen him in a few Marlies games, but my impression of him is he is only big on paper.

86 minutes in PIM last year on the Marlies, so maybe?

P.S. I franking hate the pre-season fights. They were fun 20 years ago, but now they just seem so stupid.

Agreed.

I get it, some guys want to show they can fight with the big boys.

But preseason injuries and young players getting hurt through a fight sucks.

I have a weird fascination with pre-season game rosters, because as a young lad I attended the Habs@Leafs pre-season game where the Habs were forced by the league to send additional (good) guys, as they had sent 23 stiffs to Toronto for the game.

Here's the rule - players must dress at least 8 veterans, defined as:

- Skaters who played 30 NHL games the previous season

- Goalies who dressed in 50 NHL games, or played in 30 NHL games the previous year

- Any player who has played 100 or more NHL games

- A current year first round pick

Looking at this stiff of a lineup, I guess that's Kerfoot, Jarnkrok, Nylander, Malgin, Clifford, Rielly, Benn, Gio, Brodie, Benn, Mete, Murray, maybe Kallgren (I'm guessing he's dressed for 50 NHL games, but not sure).

Admittedly, it's not as bad as when I first saw it, but it's still franking awful.

Enjoy the game, Habs fans.

My boy Zuke clearly the best Norse ever - even if he's a quarter Sicilian.

Too bad the Rangers handled his contracts terribly...
He could've stayed a Ranger for all his career.

I really wish I had heard of the Try Guys before yesterday, because this scandal sounds delicious.

https://theleafsnation.co...-an-entry-level-contract/

He's a BIG lad....almost as big as Chara and he fights but I think he is trying to not make that his entire identity. I asked because it's a fairly common thing for a young player who hasn't broken into the NHL yet who is seen as 'tough' or 'can fight' to do so in pre-season.

That being said I also agree with those here who said it is a bit silly and risks injury etc. but usually it's 1 for 1 in that if it's going to happen it's a young/prospect/ahl type of guy who fights a guy from the other team who is in that same catagory.

Guess we will see.

Adam Levine isn't a scandal. His wife came out and said she was okay with his side pieces. She's only mad that it's in the public eye now.
