Mikheyev until 32 isn't bad, it's the money involved that's a little much.
Hyman will probably turn into a mistake eventually I agree.
Nugent-Hopkins is actually a very good contract in my book. - Scabeh
RNH will have just turned 36 when that deal expires. Having never quite been elite, but always having been relatively stable as around a .75p/g guy, his drop shouldn't be that precipitous - like you can probably model a standard 30+ depreciation model on his play. By the time he's 35, he probably won't be quite worth his contract, but it won't be so bad as to make the value he's going to bring over the first couple of years look too bad.
The thing with a Hyman-type, that we've all come to realize, is that yeah - he'll eventually break down and likely head to LTIR for the final couple of years of that contract - but will Edmonton be hurt by it? Only for the first year where he struggles, and then they'll just relegate him to their version of Robidas Island (Holland's Fields?) and and that will be that.
The thing, to me, with a contract is if you're getting overall value out of it - like with JT., I think you could fairly argue that at no point during this contract did we get an honest $11m value - maybe the first year with his 47 goals - but over the full duration of that contract, it's definitely a net loss. Not as big as many want to make it out to be - as you noted, but still it's a net loss.
I don't think RNH has a net-loss contract, nor do I think Hyman necessarily does. Not as the cap increases. If you're pointing at the Oilers - Nurse does. That's a ghastly contract. |

Who? If we're just making up names, my money's on Splorg McDuffelburger - the Frankenstein from Liechtenstein! He's 7'1 of make-believe Irish/German descent. He's so big people don't even make fun of his name. |

Having a sister live in TO proper.. is one thing.. .but as a SoCal'er.. .that border region around the great lakes and areas E is something that I'd not mind a summer driving around.. Quaint, friendly very unique and different area of both countries. - dozerD10
I remember reading a cool little book written in 1980 called A Trip Around Lake Erie. Buddy shockingly just chronicles his drive around Lake Erie, describing all the towns and people. It was a fun read.
In the late ‘70s until around ‘81 I used to drive between DC and Ottawa or Toronto a fair bit and try to find back roads through Pennsylvania and Maryland. Diners and cool stops always made the extra time worth it. My guess is that there’s a lot of malls filled with poopty stores where those places used to be. |

I don’t think the solution for Holland is LTIR when it comes to these contracts. I think it’s all about a Cup before McDavid and Holland both (frank) off out of Dodge

Its the fact they have so many supporting guys locked in to big money until their mid to late thirties...I assume they want to resign Mcdavid and they are not setting themselves up well at all. |

I feel like the Oilers are on the right path, they've improved steadily over the last two seasons.
Your contracts don't have to be perfect for you to contend or to convince McDavid to stay.

From last thread:
They just delivered the baggage to the hotel we checked out at yesterday morning in Italy. I'm starting to think Southern Italy is so poor because they (frank)ing suck at their jobs.

Rick Steeves has a famous line about visiting Italy. Since it is well known that Italians can have a bad rep. He says “ Start your vacation in the North. As you move south the people become less friendly. If you get to Rome and can’t handle the way people act don’t go any further south.” I’m not perfectly quoting but paraphrasing. And I have to say he is bang on. |

I disagree.
I think they have 2 of the best players in the world but other than that are ran pretty horribly.
These long term contracts to middle tier players are bad ideas. |

A bit of a boring lineup tomorrow for the leafs. - bryant
Interesting that they’re keeping Willie-Malgin-Holmberg together. Steeves has been pretty good and is getting a shot and Murray getting thrown to the wolves with not a lot of D. Oh, and the big boy Douglas there to run amuck. |
