To be fair, Thompson and depending which Jeff Skinner shows up this year are two of their top players. |

I understand the allure of faster hockey as well as the need to remove the unnecessary hits and fights, but there was plenty of skill and finesse on display in the 80’s.
To me, the rules today allow players to build up more speed which has contributes to injuries. Add that to the hard plastic outer shell to all the pads now instead of the mostly soft pads hitting exposed areas of players being more painful and dangerous as well as composite sticks upping the puck velocity and being easier to swing over players instead of the keep your stick on the ice ethos back then and you don’t have more or less injuries, but a shift to more serious injuries when they do occur.
If you want to make hockey safer, allow some holding without the puck, bring back the red line and make two line passes illegal so you slow play down through the nuetral zone.
Bring back 80’s size goalie pads and see how effective the butterfly and hybrid is. Wood sticks that reduce slap shot speeds and make lifting the puck more difficult.
That’s all you need for a safer, tougher, interesting brand of hockey than the speed only dependent hockey we have today - Shrike
Interesting but is there any evidence that injuries of any kind have 1. increased and 2. the increases are due to these factors.?

You’ll notice I began that paragraph with the words, “To me”. Meaning it seems logical to me. Faster collisions cause more damage. |

Didn't see any of the game cause quite frankly I ain't that interested. Another 2-1 game. Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Better get used to it cause the only chance the Flyguys will have to win against most teams is to hold them to a goal or two with their pop gun offense. FIRE CHUCK and THE ENTIRE MEDICAL STAFF! |

Three goals in two games…probably what we are looking at during the regular season too. Wish i could have seen the game, probably a lot more interesting than the capped out set of garbage we will see in a couple weeks.
This organization is a train wreck and it is going to take years to be competitive if everything was changed to competent people tomorrow and at least a decade if it isn’t. Looks like a lot more of the same mediocrity and below for the foreseeable future. |

I'd add to this reduction in the amount of teams (Florida/Zona and possibly a few more) and you'd have a less watered down product. When the NHl allow zona to play in a rink smaller than some junior rinks rather than relocate, then it's clear it won't happen but one can dream.

Hopefully chuckles is better at judging good medical job applicants than he is at judging talented hockey players |
