Time to move on from Zaitsev and Branstrom in my opinion. Branstrom showed some flash that period that might win him a few key shifts this game but we have been fooled before.
Zaitsev brings negative value when he is on the ice.
While Dorion's offseason was good, it's a bit perplexing we are observing the same defensive issues with the same players as last season in preseason. - Gord_Wilson_2.0
Well said, Branny will show flashes every 20 games...Zaitsev -2 in the 1st period and anyone who plays with him must feel so defeated!
No defensive structure.....nothing has changed!

midway through the season, when OTT is in the bottom 10, Giroux will be thinking to himself why the (frank) did he ever sign in OTT and Cat will be counting the days till he can flee. i dont think dorion will fire smith before the season is ruined if he fires him at all this season.
yolu can have 12 MCDavids, 6 Headmans and 2 Vasilievskies but if you have a horrendously bad coach they will lose regardless. |

DeBrincat knifes home a beauty! |

PD knows his job is riding on his off-season moves, like they say, on paper is one thing but how the team executes is another. Plus PD knows, he cant wait on DJ if they get off to a slow start....he has to have a quick trigger on the coach, otherwise PD will be joining DJ at the end of the season if this roster was to fail this year.

starting to think Greig and Pinto are made of glass... |

Another beauty goal by Pinto! |

Grieg's not going to have a long career with those shot blocks. Needs to be careful with the compete level. Love to see it but can't run at 110% all the time.
Sokolov and Jarventie need a lot of seasoning in the minors.
Great shot by Pinto. Strong preseason for him. |

I'm frustrated for Ridly Greig. Greig finally gets his chance to try and make an impression and DJ Smith chucks him on the 4th line? On a night where there was an opening between Giroux and DeBrincat? And then gives that spot instead to Derick Brassard? What? |

Simmer just posted it on Twitter, Sokolov isn't fast or strong.....Jarventie has played 1 year in North America, I liked his WJs too.....he has way more upside then Sokolov.

is anyone surprised he puts the promising rookie in a position to fail while putting the aged vet that should be a 4th liner at most in a prime spot.... |

glad to see Greig is not injured. |

I don't get the Brassard situation. Norris, Stu, Giroux, Pinto, etc all have centre capabilities. A try out spot for a d-man would have made much more sense. |

It's a really bad pattern with this coach.....how nobody in management doesn't tell him enough is enough is mind blowing!

PD still struggles with different aspects of the roster, we all know his pro scouting side is average is best!

Agreed! Saw that too....problem is it happens once every 30 games. - Kevin Francis
Surprise Surprise! He did it again. Hopefully he hasn't used up his whole season's quota of being the player he was supposed to be. Hopefully Smith doesn't bench him for it.
I'm actually enjoying this game. It's almost like the Sens want to win the game or something; or are they just not following Smith's system plan too closely. He'll bench you for that. |

if they followed smiths plan it would be like 6-0 for MTL by now |

How much is the good the #sens are perceived to have done this off season eroded if Zaitsev is in the opening night lineup? |

Why is Brannstrom not a winger. What made him choose to be a defenseman.
Also the Brassard thing seemed more like PD giving one of his guys a shot for the 4th line but I think DJ likes him a little too much.
Honestly this camp alone mixed with the last 3 years of his coaching record should award DJ the sack. PD better be looking at coaches to replace troy Mann in Belleville.

Gotta move past Zaitsev and Brannstrom. Rotate JBD and Thomson during the year with Holden. |
