This is unfortunately true and saddening. And forget about (frank)ing math. Brought 10 empty cans to the store the other day and the CEGEP aged kid had to take out the calculator. (frank)ing seriously, 5 sous x 10 caliss? Is teaching the multiplication tables not on the school's teaching agenda anymore?

They can't without a calculator. We get kids coming into HS at grade 4 level and below in math, reading, writing, etc...

Technology is definitely dumbing down kids, but I think a high school diploma is now actually a participation certificate more so than a diploma. To me a diploma should mean you have mastered the bulk of the material. But kids are graduating that can barely read or write. They should fail until they've mastered the material. It's honestly scary for the future.

I agree with this, but then again our previous generation was saying very similar things about us... so either they were right, and we truly are getting dumber, or we're seeing things worse than they are and this future generation will be fine.

School boards get money based on enrollment, and it's a fight in english boards. So how do you sell your schools? Graduation rates! It's more important to keep kids in school rather than letting the process work.

My board brags about the near 90% graduation rate. No way are 9/10 kids able to actually graduate.
