Of the 4 centres in yesterday's game, Kirby Dach was the oldest at 21. Future looks bright

let's be honest...most vets don't really care about the first week of camp, they step it up in the 2nd half of the camp to get ready for the season. You won't see what this team is all about until the 2nd half of camp....that's for all teams. Still...the young guys are getting closer to the NHL but not many are ready to make a real impact, they are still in the learning phase.

2-3 more good picks next summer and the Habs should be on the road to respectability again. Contending...we shall see, division will be very tough.

Wonder when they're gonna cut a bunch of players.
- BashCH

Rocket camp starts on October 2nd and on ice activities on the 3rd no rush to make cuts before then. As for players going back to the juniors like Beck, keep him for a while he’s doing so well that he may motivate other players

No panic on Slaf yet, he’s getting used to the NA game just like Mesar, it’s not the time to worry or put more pressure on the kid

Here's my hot take on last night:

1: I thought Slafkovsky had an ok game. Excellent puck control and forecheck, wish he would try and shoot more though.

2: Yes, Dach had a "respectable" 44% faceoffs wins, but overall he didn't have a great game. We didn't see him use his speed or his size.

3: Owen Beck was the Habs best centre, that kid has such a well rounded game, big fan.

4: Harris and Guhle (and probably Xhekaj) are most likely the top 3 young defensemen since the beginning of camp. Barron had his best showing of camp but he's still behind the other 3 and will need to step up his game to begin the year in Montreal.

5: If Matheson plays the whole year like he did yesterday, we're not gonna miss Petry all that much, no matter how much pete misses him.

6: 1 good game of Hoffman is not enough for me to forgive him constant lazyness of last year. But if he gets hot enough that another team desperate for goals becomes interested, count me in.

last night really reassured me....about drafting in the top 5, potentially top 3 They have great young pieces that will take time to develop...but they are not there yet.

not saying you're wrong, but the fact that you can come to such a conclusion when 1/8th of the regular roster was playing last night amazes me...

It was Primeau.

And yes, it was a bad one.

I'd rather focus on Allen looking great.

Slaf looked solid.....Allen did as well....that second goal by NJ just should never happen. The young D looked good, but they were playing a mixed bag of AHL/NHL players, so while encouraging, let's see it against all NHL talent. The talent pool is getting closer to NHL, but another year away for most.

Also a fluke goal.

Primeau was awesome during the Calder Cup playoff run. They wouldn't have made it that far if it wasn't for him. I'm ready to give him the benefit of doubt, especially in a preseason game where he got in cold halfway into the game.

I'm not throwing him under the #Optobus. He'll bounce back and yes he was great in the AHL playoffs.

Let's see him have a great season in the AHL and see him become more consistent over a long period of time.

I was talking about the young guys, those who were playing and pushing for a job with the big team. We know the Vets suck for the most part...what will turn around this team are the kids...and they are not ready as expected.

This guy might be the next one...

https://www.eliteprospect...ayer/576982/gavin-mckenna

played last year in a U18 academy at 14 years old, 65 points in 35 games.

He had 4 points in his first WHL game with the Medicine Hat Tigers...at 14 years old...

tks Karine,
I did enjoy Dach. nice to have a big center.
some other kids did pretty well too.
I still dont see what Norlinder could bring to the table. it's early, but pretty sure he won't make me change my mind.
