The problem I believe is mid-teir vets currently would play for less on other teams, are they using another NHL season to dicifer what their prospect pool is then fill roles?

Does he have what it takes to make tough decisions, does Granato know how to coach men?

I know they are in an assessment year, other NHL teams have already rebuilt much more efficently in the 12 year span of this ownership, once they establish their top line players, why should we believe they have what it takes to fill out a successful roster when everyone in that building has failed multiple times already?

I think overall pilut is the better player.


But again. It was 1 game with 2 AHL rosters basically. So that doesn’t tell me much.

I think this season will see how well he built the organization, no help (if he every got any) from the vacant president position so it's another rookie year for him. It seems he has drafted well, but they have been here before. Like 36 said, lots of looking this season.

There's no reason you shouldn't include player contracts, especially one with the uniqueness of Pilot. 5 games and the waivers are gone. All of our AHL defenders with NHL contracts will need to pass waivers except for Laaksonen. Which means, can you expose Casey Fitzgerald or do you feel the need to carry 8 defensemen? You can do it, waive Bjork to make room for Peterka, go 13/8/2.

Then you need to consider, Fitz is a great AHL D and a well liked veteran there. I don't think Adams wants him rotting in Buffalo playing 25-30 games (ideally). Sure, maybe Bryson and Pilut rotate. Or..

You gauge interest on Fitz league wide, see if he can make it through waivers. Keep Pilut as your 7th, he's going to get those 5 games almost guaranteed. He's not making it through waivers, he's absolutely serviceable in the bottom half. Then how often do you play him?

I'm not sure who the better player is over a long period of time is between Pilot and Bryson. But if they're both solid 3rd pair guys, it's really nice to have a super cheap contract also not be an absolute detriment like, let's see, whoever the 6/7 was for the past how many years. Irwin. Hagg. Hunwick. Scandella. Bogosian. Fedun. Beaulieu. Tennyson.

Whoever is playing as the 6th/7th Dman would just be preferable if I never hear their name. Sure, occasionally they will be making good plays. More often then not it will be because they're getting walked. The less I hear about them, the better they are probably playing.

Ryan Johnson isn't the center piece of this deal by a mile. Robertson demands a bigger package then almost any winger recently traded, and probably very close to MT. You're looking probably at bare minimum JJP, 1st (top 10 protected), maybe then a Ryan Johnson (because he becomes a 2nd) and at least another asset.
