Agreed… I think the D depth is solid if they remain healthy.
- Dozzer

Unless you exchanging old, creaky D for young D that’s under contract at a decent price for a while. That’s what’s attractive about Chychrun. You could see a really nice, reasonably affordable D set with him and the kids and Rielly for a few years.

I’d be willing to give up a high pick and a good prospect for that. But you’d need Kerfoot $ and more to make it work and I’m sure that smart Harvard guy said no way Coy yo te.

Chychrun has played 7 years and as only hit 60 games in a season twice. His rookie year and once again 3 years ago.

Not to mention he only has one year where he got more than 30 points.

For the price it would cost to get him he’s not worth it imo. A questionable producer who is an obvious health risk.

Yeah but those guys aren’t the types to be guaranteed roles moving forward. Not at their current salary anyways. Whereas if they play for a team like Arizona they’ll still get a decent salary since the coyotes still need guys like them to make the salary cap base.
- Dozzer

No way Kerfoot stays in Arizona at his current salary. He’s attractive to them because his cap hit is $3.5 but he’s only getting paid $750K.

There are others who are more in love with him than me. I haven’t seen him play enough to pretend to care a lot but I like the idea of bringing in a young, good guy who can play the right side who’s on a decent contract. I just don’t think it can happen for reasons you disagree with so

But he might resign for just a couple million after this year when he’s in his late 20s. Give him a deal similar Jarnkrok after this… only a couple million but for 4 years… that would take Kerfoot to the age of 33 when he would either retire or take next to nothing to keep playing for a couple more years after that.

He makes near as much as Rielly did at that age but isn’t as reliable or as capable.

I know playing with the yotes has a notable role in this but the guy is minus 46 over his career.

Let me repeat. I like the player just not what is rumoured to be the asking price for him.

If Dubas has reached the point where he feels he’s gonna get fired watch out
- Dozzer

I think this is the year Dubas makes a huge ass trade. Not sure it'll be soon (probably closer to the deadline) and I don't know if it'll be Chychrun, but I'd bet on a trade happening.

Because the team has said that he ain't getting an extension until they see progress. That could lead to a huge deadline for the Leafs.

I don't see it happening right now.

I think he gets dealt at the deadline.

- Santo_44

I can agree with that. Unless Chychrun wants to go through the whole season with the team he gets traded to.

Which could happen. Since he's said he finally accepted that the Yotes want to trade him.

I think he continues to make moves for the future of the team and not his job. Or so it seems. I can't see how he didn't know his contract status making the goalie moves he did.

Not a chance.

He’ll be playing but they’re not going to force him to play at he beginning of a preseason if it ups his risk.

- Dozzer

How is there not a chance?

Weber seemed healthy before he called it quits

It is obvious injuries are becoming an issue for him and its not out of the question he has to call it quits before that contract ends

If he does I hope it’s only Chychrun if the asking price goes notably down.

He’s decent but has only had the one dominant year. Nor can he be relied on to stay healthy.

I think they overate him though, teams will wait.

Debrincat is better and he got something that they would want.

Well we both agree it’s unlikely just for different reasons. Anyway, Gigs is the guy who loves him the most

Weber isn’t even close. He missed routine time due his left foot and ankle and then had surgery to correct it and it still didn’t work.

Muzzin has a sore back and has recovered from the head injuries. He’s older yes but nowhere near as bad as Weber got.

Huge ass deadline moves rarely move the needle much. If he has to make a huge ass deadline move...the season has not gone well. Ideally the big moves are done in the offseason. Kyle has anted up on his core. He should be adding role players at the deadline.

I've watched him a lot. He got screwed on Norris votes 2 seasons ago and still finished 10th in voting.

He'd be an excellent addition to the Leafs and not just because he's a great player. But also because he can play on either side and play it incredibly well.

To be fair, you are talking about the Coyotes. Gotta think a team that crappy doesn't help his stats or health.

The only trade that makes sense but WON'T happen IMHO is:

Kerfoot, Sandin, 1st

Rielly, Brodie -Two Way
Chychrun, Lily -Two Way
Muzzin, Gio -Defensive
Benn, Holl -Defensive

A bit better, not awesome.

Move Muzz and Holl out end of season and fix the bottom pairing....Gio back at LD and find a 4/6 RHD.

Chychrun would be both.

On the goalies, apparently he did know his contract status and still decided he was more than content with Murray.

Flip your second and third pairing I guess… not because it’s my opinion but the current coach Keefe wants the second pairing to be shutdown capable.

Ya you're right...

Rielly, Brodie
Muzzin, Chychrun (has he ever played the RS?)
Gio, Lily

If Chy plays the RS, it might improve Muzzin's game. Then when Muzz is gone, Chy goes back to LD and Leafs find a RHD in the off season. Say Weegar, pretty sure he's a UFA next summer.

Rielly, Brodie
Chychrun, Weegar
Gio, Lily

Boom!
