Frost last night:

* Nifty assist on N. Cates PPG. Cates and Allison after the game were marveling at his ability to distribute.

* 20-plus minutes of ice time, including large scale PK time.

* Showed increased willingness to shoot.

* Two takeaways.

* Won 60% of his faceoffs.

* Erased his late icing with a vital shot block.

* Was praised by Laperriere after the game last night and, in private conversation, by the various Flyers PPL at the FTC today. They all said it was a strong starting point to preseason for him.

His game wasn't spotless. There were a few things he needs to clean up. But "meh" is woefully off base to the point of being laughable.

This is laughable, praise from teammates haha come on Bill. He’s still just a guy blending in, it’s one game. What year is it for the kid now, 5/6? Show that you belong. No one watched that game and said that kids gonna make an impact this year.

There's a difference between, "Yeah, so-and-so a good player. I like playing with him" (standard issue praise) and "The things he does with the puck. I mean, holy sh*t!" / "It's like he has eyes in the back of his head".... and also generally stoic hockey people (some of whom were and are skeptics) saying it was a very strong first outing and he just needs to keep it up.

It's one good preseason game, followed by a dominant scrimmage today in a line with JVR and Konecny. Just baby steps but encouraging early signs. More assertive, physically stronger, more confident. Now has to keep building.

I myself said that he looked stronger in board battle but a nice pass on a 5 on 3 does not translate to he had a good hockey game. He was ok, at best. The icing and the under the stick play were dumb and the rest was nothing to get excited over. Glad to hear he was good today.

I ran down what made it a good game for him. The assist was one point among many (and, yes,
a 5-on-3 primary for a slam dunk goal absolutely is a notch to his credit. Remind me how the Flyers power play is exiting last yesr, including 5-on-3) . He atoned for the icing. Again, the Flyers people were happy and encouraged overall.

His performance wasn't spotless.

I'm calling it now.

Frost with a 35 point season, playing 70 some games and a few good games where fans are excited he is showing some "glimpses" of "greatness".

He gets rewarded with a 5yr/25m new deal and for the next 4 years everyone is asking when is he going to take that next step.

Cap management at its finest.

Kid should have had 5 points in a 2-1 game or he really wasn't even a factor.

Calm down people. We’re undefeated. Soak it in. Would love to see frost put up more points but his all around game is looking better and he is a key to the future success. How bout we root for the kid it’s his time to shine.

Point wise what is a successful season for Frost?
- furio16

If he can deliver 0.5 PPG and not miss many games, I think that would be successful.

Sandström was unreal. Definitely got saved by the bell with that leaky squeaker that the refs blew dead though.

Ummmm, we're allowed to critique his play. I mean, perhaps I am a bit hard on him with my evaluation of his play, but it doesn't mean that I'm not rooting for him. In fact, many times I have said that I hope he proves me wrong. That's what we enjoy doing here. I hope he has 50 goals and 50 assists this season, and I look like a total arsehole!! Of course, I'm sure there are some folks on here that already think I look like a total arsehole, so there is that.

I had fun. I told my boys we only had 3 starters out there. Got to sit at ice level at the end of the game and watch Morgan take that face off and block that last shot. It was more miscues by Boston that had the score end like that but a good effort from the young guys. I know I can’t skate like that.

Lol 5 on 3 assist was it? He did not look good last night.
-ClaudFather

I didn't think Frost looked all that good last night either 5v5, against a rookie team for the Bruins. Frost did make an excellent pass on the PP and looked good on the PP. Its still early in camp, but perhaps this is what Frost is, something that can help on the PP. Not sure this will be enough however.

That was my concern after watching him at the end of last season. The guy skates, has a good shot but just can't put it in the net. I hope he was just a bit snake bitten last year but I have my doubts.
- rayc16

There was a reason Tippet was skating in the minors when the Flyers traded for him ... its unfortunate and again, I lay this all on the selfishness of Giroux. He could have played for any contender last year since its now clear his plans were to go back to Ottawa, his home town. Totally tied Fletcher's hands, and we got nothing but what will turn out to be a late 1st round pick in a weak draft. CC's last stab at his old team!

So I’m suppose to have a Peter Forsberg expectation of Morgan Frost in game 1 of the pre season as the teams and players get their legs under themselves and get their timing back? They were only allowed to touch the pucks again on Friday…
- SuperSchennBros

Wait .. its not like Frost hasn't touched a puck since last year. The guy skates and plays hockey all summer, and was here Sept 1st playing with the other Flyers weeks before camp started. Honestly, some of the posters are right in regards to Frost, if any game was a game where Frost should have looked superior on the ice, it was in the 1st pre-season game against a very weak Bruins roster!

And the B's hit about 5 posts in the 1st period, the score was definitely not indicative of the play on the ice.

Is this why we traded Braydon Schenn? To get a young center that wins faceoffs against a bad team, kill penalties and block shots? Frost did show a willingness to shoot, but he ended up with only 1 shot on goal!! Bill, you shouldn't have to stretch so far to amplify a player that should be flying all over the ice offensively against a weak club! I mean, do we really need another Scott Laughton on this team?

12 for 20 on faceoffs last night. I'd take 60% any night.

Is he going to do this against Bergeron and Krejci?

We are talking about Frost as if he is a top 3 pick instead of the 27th pick in the first round.

I don't feel like doing it again, but go back and look at the stats from the players picked 27th in the NHL draft. Go back 20-30 years if you want.

What you will see is that those players, if they made the NHL AT ALL, don't even average 25-45 points a season over the course of their careers. Most of them haven't scored 100 points in their whole careers.

We need to slow our rolls here on our expectations for Morgan Frost because he is "1st round pick."
