Well I’m hoping it makes a positive impact.
I’m gonna go on record of saying now, I’ll forgive the Deslauriers signing if he can skate as well as I’ve heard. Can forcheck hard. He doesn’t have to defend perfectly but be competent at it. I’m gonna try to have an open mind about him. - SuperSchennBros
No problem at all w the signing especially if he can kill penalties. Just can go more than two years. IMO

You sound pretty confident about this.
The Flyers have a below average starting goalie who's never played more than 45 games in a season. There is no NHL backup behind him. Those two factors alone probably preclude any sort of major improvement in goals against.
I fully expect them to be bottom-10 defensively, if not bottom-5. - Tomahawk
Don’t forget how poop the PK is too. Another thing they did absolutely nothing to address.
The 2nd half of the year the Flyers were the worst team in the league by several metrics. Idk why all of a sudden people see them being better than 7 or 8 teams. |

Saying they will be "better" defensively and saying they will be "good" defensively are two VERY different things. - MBFlyerfan
Hey the future looks grim for sure but let's not act like a bunch of defeatists who are defeated before we play our first game. That is why Torts is here to change the mindset in these young players. It is looking like a brutal season for sure but let's give them a chance to prove the naysayers wrong. Like TDA or not if every player had his confidence the team would be in a better place.

At least Deangelo wants to play for this team

Why wouldn't he? Who else was going to give him 10M dollars? |

The Flyers will miss Ellis and Couturier (if he is indeed out for a significant length of time), but to say the Flyers don't have good players is really a big exaggeration! Firstly Carter Hart is a competent goalie. Secondly, DeAngelo, Provorov, Sanheim and Risto, Braun and York are good players, maybe not elite players, but surely good enough to execute a good defensive system. Finally the Flyers will have a nice blend of younger payers and veterans up front that will buy into Tort's system. The Flyers were 27th in the league defensively last season, they will be significantly better this season, at least middle of the pack which would be a significant improvement.
Yes, it will come down to special teams and yes if we go by last year we will be hosed. But again, I expect the Flyers will be a few ticks higher than the 75% they were on the PK last year, and if some of the younger snipers can make the roster, I would expect the Flyers will have a better PP than the 12% they had last year. In the end, it will not be close to good enough, but hopefully something to build on and the Flyers are once again picking in the top 10 of the draft. - jd250

Torts raises expectation for players, it doesn't mean they can play beyond their skill, but it is more likely they play to it. If the whole team buys in then at least you have a team identity. As the young players develop, then you add skill, you hope to add them to an environment that is hard working and teams based. All for one and one for all. |

What's he gonna do... bench guys? Then who's he gonna play? MacEwen, Connouton and Deslauriers? Some random Phantoms that will make even more mistakes?
The threat of losing playing time really loses its teeth when players know there's no competition behind them. - Tomahawk
He's going to wave the Torts magic wand and spread "perfect play pixie dust" all over the bench. SC here we come!!! |

Flyers rolling with a Laughton-Hayes-Atkinson line this scrimmage. Think that at least has a chance of being the top line to start the year.

How can they miss Ellis when they never had him?
Look at the Flyers center depth. That is piss poor. This is just not a good team. - furio16
No one is saying they are a good team. All I am saying is this team will be better than last year (I know, big whoop!) 5 v 5 defensively BUT will struggle to score goals, so this evens out. It thus comes down to special teams which based on the past few years will mean yet again another bad season. However the dark horses here are Allison and Foerster, because if (and these are big IFs) 1. they can stay healthy and 2. they can learn to create space for themselves, both can contribute significantly to the PP and thus this team will be better than we think. This would not be a good result for the franchise this year, but moving forward it will be something positive to look forward to. |

Mutton is being generous. Last season was more like expired tempeh.
The only way they make it back to hamburger is if Carter Hart wins the Hart Trophy. Filet is completely out of the question.

You wanna give up four top 5 picks for Robertson? Cause this roster isn’t headed anywhere with or without him. |

You seem to be implying they will be good is how I was/am reading it. Will note you say they are not good.
At best Foerster gets called up after the deadline. Allison will see it when I believe it.

Embarrassing this is what they push, promote, and want to be identified as for their team.
