Eh? It essentially is. You are free to sign other players whose combined salary cap hit is up to injured player's salary cap hit.
I am sure everyone knows this. So, what am I missing? - PT21
Off season there isn't LTIR (I think) and you can only be 10% over cap in the off season

Torts isn't going to make a bit of difference except for more exciting press conferences. The Flyers have more veteran grinders on one way contracts than they do young top 6 players, no elite talent, one of the most overpaid defensive corps in the league, and no backup goalie. All the yelling in the world won't change that.
Who is the Flyers best player on opening night? Hayes? ROFL. He get's paid like a first line player, to bad he isn't one. Any bets on how many games he plays this year? - Flyers_01
I disagree. Imagine what would have happened if we lost only 1 more game last season... without those trivial points we would have shane Wright on our team now.
Wven if Torts milks a fee more wins out of this group it could be a big deal come draft day
Every point counts and every extra point we get will hurt our draft position
Torts will be great for next season but this season we should have run with yeo again, imo |

According to Fletcher, this is what Ellis is mainly dealing with:
Psoas Syndrome
Psoas syndrome is an uncommon, and often misdiagnosed, condition that can appear as refractory lower back pain (pain that stays even after treatment) accompanied by other symptoms. The condition occurs when the psoas muscle—the long muscle (up to 16 inches) in your back—is injured. The psoas muscle is located in the lower lumbar region of the spine and extends through the pelvis to the femur. This muscle works by flexing the hip joint and lifting the upper leg towards the body. A common example of the movement created from this muscle is walking. Psoas syndrome is a very rare condition, but athletes are at higher risk. Psoas syndrome is best treated with physical exercises. |

This roster that’s capped out. It’s mind numbing - Just5
Tortorella has to squeeze water from a stone just to get 50 some points."Hopefully" But i bet 4-5 teams will get less, in that ugly bottom-dweller competition.

That's a tough ask considering this roster is weaker than last season's.

Today team GM Chuck Fletcher announced that it is likely that Ryan Ellis will miss the entire season as he recovers from his injury…Also, team leader, and potential captain, Couturier will be out “week to week.”

Jerry Wolman's voodoo game is STRONG.
Only way to break the curse is to give the entire Wolman family "senior advisory" positions with the team. For life. |

https://www.capfriendly.com/ltir-faq
Can LTIR be used in the off-season?
Yes, LTIR can be used in the off-season while the 10% off-season cushion is active. LTIR in the off-season is calculated using the basic equation outlined above, which permits a team to exceed the off-season salary cap. To use off-season LTIR the team must provide doctors proof that the player in question will continue to be injured at the beginning of the regular season for 10 NHL games and 24 calendar days.
At the start of the season the teams LTIR relief & ACSL is recalculated when the 10% cushion is removed.

I have long suffered from Piriformis Syndrome which is similar. Psoas occurs in the same area on the opposite (mainly front) side of the body while piriformis affect the back and sciatica regions.
It can't be helped with surgery and only stretching and strengthening the area can give any relief.
It never goes away completely in my case.

He's in college. Once again, NCAA rules prohibit a player from attending a pro camp that overlaps with any semester in which an athlete is registered for classes.
This seems to come up over and over. I did an FAQ article on the FLyers site some years ago about the complex set of rules governing camp attendance. - bmeltzer
Unfortunately my brain is defaulting to a negative as first thought…fingers crossed for him to grow into a solid Pro

Idk if you’re being serious. I never heard that. Not saying it’s not true if you’re being serious.
I do know he loved playing in Nashville. And was clearly shaken by the trade. No surgery make zero sense. - SMS4016

Off season there isn't LTIR (I think) and you can only be 10% over cap in the off season - Scoob
I thought everything that is valid during season re: LTIR stays valid in off-season AND you get 10% more to play with. So, for instance, if salary cap is about 82 m and Ellis is about $6.5m then for a cap ceiling team like the Flyers, in-season salary cap would be essentially 82m +6.5 m = 88.5m.
And during following off season, the salary cap would be 110% of 82m = 90m odd + LTIR = 96.5m.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. |

Sorry to hear that. You have mentioned your migraines in the past.
Have you tried accupuncture? Also, doctors here will not prescribe Rizatriptan (sp?) beyond a certain # of pills (or maybe it is insurance that will not pay). But in other parts of the world, that is an OTC and you can get it by the shovelful for very cheap (like, say, in India, which is a pharma giant) |
