And the Avs didn’t fall ass backwards into Makar and Mackinnon ? - Pegullaville
I don't understand what you're asking me.
Cup teams include tankers (Pitt, Chi, Avs)
The Lightning
and non tankers (Det, Bos, LA, Wash)
tankers like Buffalo and Toronto have yet to win
non tankers like Nashville Minnesota and Dallas have yet to win.
The only point I'm making is that there's more than one way to skin all the cats. Don't make more out of it.

1) I'm sure Kim appreciates you protecting her yachting lifestyle, but I still don't care about it. They're going to make money regardless; their other team prints it at a religious level. If you're owning an NHL team as profit making venture and that team isn't named Rangers, Leafs, or Habs you need to have a winning product on the ice in order to sell out the rink 41 times a year and make money. Not nickle and diming your STHs along the way would help too. But winning would help more. One of the secrets to the Yankees being able to print money is they have been in the playoffs 24 of the last 28 years in league where it used to be hard to make the playoffs, and fans reward them. Yankee stadium used to be a ghost town when Don Mattingly played even though they had the same vaunted history.
2) I've never in all the hundreds of games I've been to heard a fan call for another gimmick night, but we get a new one of those every season. I have often heard STHs complain about how they've seen their tickets get shlttier and shlttier every season. Far more than you'd like to admit. For whatever reason. Lord knows we don't want Kim have to rent a mega yacht someone else has walked on before. - lacaprup

Darcy Regier made savvy trades for both Briere and Drury well before the Sabres were "ready to compete", and he could be as passive as they come. I don't need a playoff spot this year. I do need something that shows the standard is higher. At least create some competition for meaningful roster spots. They're essentially handing Quinn and Peterka spots instead of making them earn it. - buffalofan19
I think bringing Vinny back assures one of Quinn or Peterka is on the outside looking in.
Unless they are paying him $1.7M to sit in the press box which I guess is possible |

That's what I'm saying. If you want to go that route, you need to find another center at least of equal caliber of those two. - buffalofan19
Savoie and the top 15 pick this year is a good start. |

Which, again, should make it EASIER for the Sabres to compete. The point is winning sells tickets in any sport. I never mentioned championships at all. The Yankees field a playoff team every year and because of that they sell 3 million tickets a year in their sleep. On a great year they sell 4 million the next season. You think the Sabres would have to cry poor if they made the playoffs 24 of the last 28 years? Just make the playoffs and fans will fill the arena as they have before. And, by the by, my guess is the Pegulas have more money than the Steinbrenners. |

How would it be easier to be competitive when you cant buy your team?
When you can bring in big player after big player after big player with no real limit how is that harder?

PREACH.... You can't win a Championship if you don't make the playoffs. I would rather be in every year with a chance then to not have the chance at all.

I think they are staring at another top 10 pick this year myself personally.
Will they draft top 5? Most likely not unless they win the lottery.
The 2023 draft class looks special though so they very well could find that guy where they will be picking.
We have a ton of trade chips and a ton of cap space. I’m thrilled with where things are headed even though this season may be another retool year - Pegullaville
I read the exact same post from you every single year.
You said the exact same thing last year, and the year before that.
I’m not even saying your wrong, just wondering if in 365 days from now we can expect to hear how great the 2024 center class will be after we draft a D man 9th this year? |

I mean no one can outspend the Sabres unless they choose to let them. The Yankees do not have that option. For example, the Dodgers have outspent the Yankees consistently for years now, and now the Mets too. And there is nothing the Yankees can do about it. The Sabres, as rich as they are, can spend to the limit every year and be competitive. They choose not to and the empty building reflects that.
The Sabres have it far easier than the Yankees. The Sabres only have to be in the top 50% of the league to make the playoffs. It used to be really hard to make the playoffs in baseball. it's easier now, but still harder than the NHL. Yet, the Yankees do not have the option to miss the playoffs. They have to rebuild on the fly and put a winner out there every year because their fans expect and deserve it. As a result, they've been in 24 of the last 28 playoffs.
Or take the Cardinals who haven't had back to back losing seasons in like 4 or 5 decades. And, as a result, have a packed house all the time.
And, of course, the Yankees do everything top shelf for their fans at the Stadium. I've sat in the Legends Suits three times. It's incredible....and I had a real ticket!!! I even have a complimentary wooden box that my wife's drink was brought to her in with the Yankee logo burned into it. it's my dope box now. I guess they're doing wrong in the Bronx. They should learn from the empty arena in Buffalo. |

When you can literally buy the best players available year in and out its a lot easier to build.
Its only harder to make the playoffs for teams like Oakland and the others that don't have the cash the yankees do.
You are comparing one of the biggest if not the biggest team in baseball to the WNY Sabres...... Horrible comparisons |

while I agree with most of this, however the Sabres have to get a winning base/Core first. Even the Yankees had a "Core" we have not had that in like 12 years.
I think we will make a large step forward towards making the playoffs this year, I think we will come up 5-7 points short. Next off season or at the TDL is the time to start making more moves to acquire talent.
Lets see how they do this year.

a lot of visiting team's fans at their games
