He's 5th in scoring behind:
1: Forsberg
2: Hertl
3: Rielly
4: Teravainen
And he's only 33 points behind Hertl so....
But yeah what a dreadful draft class.

He was taken where he should have been, but ahead of him should have been:
Vasilevsky
Hertl

Slavin

Why wouldn’t they give him something close to the max? He deserves it. |

That's an interesting point.
Fun game: fill in the Cap number for the corresponding season and the contract amount for each player's new contract or "trade" or "walk" or whatever.
Cap Estimate?
2024
Important UFAs:
Matthews
Nylander
Muzzin
Brodie
Gio
Cap Estimate?
2025
Important UFAs:
Marner
Tavares
(Note: the only players currently on the roster signed passed year 2025 so far are Rielly and Jarnkrok, otherwise there is not ONE other player under contract, just something to keep in mind when estimating.)
When I look at this, makes me think Dubas might want to get fired because there is some really tough work ahead for this team. Wow. |

(frank) ya he does. Favorite Leaf ever for me.
(Admittedly, I missed most of Sundin, Clarke and Gilmore's years being out of the country) |

I was told what does an extra million at Marner's cap hit matter since it's so large anyway?

Don't remind my of his infamous slide in last year's playoffs.
Edit: too late. - Scabeh
I've never understood how people thought he was so good. And the second he got that contract, I hated it.
It's like him getting hurt always erases peoples memories of how bad he can be because when he comes back, he's slightly better than the backup that took his place. |

Astonishingly he's actually played more NHL games than Forsberg, Hertl and Teravainen too. Just a grotesque draft year.

Leafs drafted 2 guys in the top 15 points-wise in the draft. Dead give away that it wasn't good. |

Muzzin is gone, Brodie can stay on a short deal for less, Gio is gone, JT stays for Spezza $ or works in management, Matthews gets whatever he wants, Marner gets a buck fiddy less, Willie gets a decent/manageable raise or goes. Rielly is paid for. There are no poopty contracts carrying over right now. Knies, Sandin, Lilli, Niemila (sp) get worked in and there’s JT, Muzzin and cap expansion $ available. I think Kyle is in great shape |

If Nylander keeps posting 90 points season, he's getting more than 8,5M with a rising cap.
IMHO.

No raise for Marner? I see him at $12 after trying to fight for more.
What if JT takes a pay cut to stay as the 3C?
But I think overall I agree with you. |
