Damn MacKinnon got paid. He's a beast but we'll see how the team looks when that one kicks in.

The first year or two might be tough, but that's still a good deal for Colorado. If the cap rises like it did in the NBA post-TV deal, this will be a really good deal for Colorado.

I'm surprised more guys arent taking 3-4 year deals and anticipating the cap going way up.

they got their cup, and they'll have a good chance this year, after that.. ooh boy.
- j.boyd919

Yea he literally doubled his contract, his best chance is definitely this season after that it's gonna be murky waters haha

The cap has to go up massively. He literally doubled his cap hit haha. I mean he's a great player but that definitely wasn't a contract to keep a better team together.

I loved the rust, letang and geno signings. i am not worried about term. But with that new found cap space they sign archibald and kappy? But pass on Niderreiter ($4MX2 yrs), ERod ($2M/1yr) and Milano (PTO)? I dont get it. AND thats not even mentioning the mcginn or rutta contracts. I still dont know what desmith did to get a 44% raise. Except be unavailable 2 consecutive years in the playoffs with the same injury.

The flames blogger is talking up Archibald “as tough as they come”. Guess he was pissing off the Flames in the playoffs last year, injured Lucic. poop play him over Kap.

E. Johnson's cap hit is 6 mill... He's gone after this season... They're going to be fine... They're going to be a powerhouse for years, yet.

Yea but won't they have other young defensemen on ELCs that will need a raise? I'm not saying they are gonna suck. Guess we'll see haha. I don't wanna compare t
It to Chicago because Toews contract was the worst contract given out.

This is nice to read. Even if he became an effective regular 4th liner I'd be happy with it.
- MattStrat

I hope Poulin is better than that. I think he might be a 3rd line/middle six talent whose size pushes him up a level. Not exciting for a first, but Pascal Dupuis was a middle 6 talent who carved out a nice top 6 career because he found a fit. Poulin has decent size and good hockey sense.

See
Ristolainen, Rasmus
Finger, Jeff
Bryzgaov, Ilya
DiPietro, Rick
Yashin, Alexei
Gomez, Scott
Redden, Wade

Off the top of my head.

But Colorado is doing what Pittsburgh has been doing; go all-in now, win as much as you can, and deal with the fallout later.

Poulin being a Dupuis type is actually a pretty good outlook for him 👍

Haha yea there have been other bad ones but he was overpaid by about 5 million, Toews is definitely in the top 10 for me.

I don't think Toews was ever a bad player (BOO HOO, OMFG HE MADE SOME ARBITRARY LIST THAT MALKIN DIDN'T WAAAAAH!), but it's hard not to give money to the captain of your team who just won 3 Cups in 6 years and was underpaid at that time. They obviously expected some more runs with him and Kane, it just didn't happen. I'd say it was maybe $2M too much looking at it at the time of the signing. The ones I listed were horrible when they were signed and didn't get any better (foresight on Ristolainen).

I mean I'd rather have Milano on a PTO than Archibald and his signed contract.
- 668710

Also, I agree 100% with you. But maybe there's a reason that no one wanted to sign him. Was it him or Ho Sang that was late to the first day of their first ever training camp? I always confuse them. Maybe teammates have spoken privately about him negatively, maybe he has a bad attitude, doesn't act professionally...there must be some reason why a player who puts up decent production didn't get picked up.

Byram is the only ELC one...I dont know...I just look at the players they have signed for 3 or more seasons yet and think they are going to be very strong for quite some time...or at least 3 more seasons haha

Oh I hope that too, really do. My point is the chances of a late 1st round pick, or later, becoming a NHL mainstay are very slim. If he became an effective NHL mainstay on the 4th line I still think he's a successful pick.

One of Dupuis biggest assets was his skating along with his sense. How's Poulins skating?

I'm glad you're sticking around and not running because people don't agree with you. I sincerely mean that. This place is for entertainment and your major pro-Archibald takes definitely help fuel the experience around here.

Do you think Archie is on the opening night roster? When do you think Archi will get his first goal this season? How about first point?

I’d say it depends on his health and conditioning. He barely played last year. Very possible he isn’t.

Yeah I just had a look....only 8 regular season games but he did play in 13 playoff games. I was surprised to see he's had a few less than 70 game 12 goal seasons since leaving the Pens.

Starts the season with Blueger and McGinn on 4th line. First point in 3 games. First goal in six games. First Geordie Howe hat trick in 10.

Slipped my mind, but I’ve been out at camp a few times to see the prospects and the vets were having an informal skate. Poehling probably gets the 13th spot.He could even take over 4th line center with Blueger being moved because they might not resign him.
