Have seen rumors that Ethan Bear may be available from Carolina... that would be a nice add, as a natural RHD who could play a decent 4/5 role. Would far rather see that vs. PTO players, or the table scraps offerings at waivers time. - khawk
Great point, I agree. PD has managed to mess up the blueline pretty good over the last year. Hamonic well past his best days and the mere fact that Zaitsev is still here to bother so many fans as they block the youth getting reps.

Angus Crookshank.
You want to believe the hockey Gods and broadcasters must love this name.
How could a team resist against putting an Angus into the opening night line up? |

Does anyone else think the risk-to-reward move of signing PK Subban to a 1 year $2M deal (and moving Zaitsev) would be a smart decision.... I wouldn't be surprised if he goes somewhere on a 1 year deal and does well and earns a longer term deal - AlfieisKing
Subban just announced his retirement. |

Chara and Yandle also announced their retirement |

Thank goodness on all three.
Enough.
Didn't mind Yandle...though streak got a little ridiculous.
Love Chara but it was time.
Subban....too much personality. |

Hm, I'd be much more interested in Bear than many of the other names mentioned recently.
What would he cost? |

I agree... he's one of the more attractive options I've heard of in a while. Carolina got Ethan Bear ($2.0Mx2yrs) in July 2021 for the RFA rights to Warren Foegele (who EDM signed for $2.7Mx3yrs). So maybe a prospect & decent pick? The fact that Ottawa could absorb the $2.0M without any major salary going back gives them a pretty strong advantage vs. most other teams. |

Serves to note Bear's cap hit of 2.2M is basically what the Canes need to clear to be cap compliant without Gardiner's LTIR. Gives them a lot more in season flexibility to make moves. He might be available for a song. |

I think the number is exactly what was predicted. This is a lot less than the % of cap given to McDavid. Contract will look ok by next summer (Matthew’s @ $15m) |

That contract is meant to align with the anticipated cap increase... and certainly is well below the $15M mark people have speculated that Matthews will hit in 2yrs time. Plus, it doesn't kick in for another year, and the ~$6M increase just happens to coincide with Erik Johnson's $6M contract leaving the books. So I wouldn't go betting against the Avs just yet. |

Back to "ignoring Aylmer/Gatineau" for a second.
I just don't get it.
In the beginning the thinking was that so many people were either Habs or Leafs fans that we didn't have any home-grown fans here. And further to that, why waste marketing money and effort on people who would rather drive to Montreal. OR Why fill our building with fans of another team. Well, news flash, it happens anyhow. I also thought this was Eugene thinking too, and that once he was gone they'd make more of an effort across the river.
It just seems silly to not make even a small effort now. Especially if you're dead-set on building an arena down there. |

Great stuff! 30 years later and they don't give a crap about the francophones over there. Unreal! I have been tweeting about it for a few days now, the response from people in Gatineau that are DMing me on Twitter is unreal!

There's a nice piece here from earlier in the summer, specifically identifying Ethan Bear as a good D-man target for the Senators.

As camp and pre-season games play out, let's see what PD does with Zaitsev!
