McKinnon says deal is close. I’m guessing 8 x 10.5-11

So Winnipeg announcing Wheeler won't wear the "C" this year......wonder when he gets traded or LTIR'd?

How long did it take for Thornton and Marleau to get the boot? He's there until his contract ends.

The contract is a good point - he is to be paid 8.25M this year and next and have a NMV/NTC in both years but only a NMC in the past year. I'm not sure if the NMC/NTC has already kicked in or kicks in when this season starts?

Maybe this is a ploy by the team to try & get him to the point he wants to leave? That 8.25M is a huge salary for what he brings to the table at this point at 36 years old.....Winnipeg would have to do some retaining or take an equally bad contract back I think.

Maybe, I wouldn't be surprised if he plays out the 2 years. My guess is this is their last kick at the can, if they are out at the deadline I suspect they will sell off their team as best they can.

He's been near a point per game still, over the last 2 years. He's a big guy, a decent 2 way player, and known as a solid leader (if I remember correctly). personally, I would have no problems paying a player like that 8m these days.

He's sort of their version of John Tavares. A little bit less point pace, more games missed, less salary, better two way player.

The only real concern is that he seems to miss 15 to 20 games a year now.

Weird they aren’t announcing a new captain, but instead just going with 3 alternates.

Just stripping of captaincy.

Or you could say he hasn't been a point per game player in the last 3 seasons, (he's been nearly 5 points shy every of those seasons) and was a -17 2 years ago and a -15 last year.

There has been alot of chatter that his leadership is an issue.

I don't think many teams will jump to grab a 36 year old Blake Wheeler at 8M per but I could very well be surprised - if Holland had the scratch he probably would. lol

I'd take JT today at his contract over Wheeler today at his but that's just me.

I’m not sure they can see the can for a while unless Hellebuyck turns his game around in a big way. They’re not a very good team. But they beat the Leafs that one time so, yeah, there’s that.

I'm 99 44/100% certain that contractual conditions like NMCs and NTCs start on July 1st.

Why are people on Twitter so bloody obsessed with Sandin? Twitter this Twitter that… non stop for their 7th d man… man..

They tried him on the right once and that ended fairly damn quickly… he’s weak defensively on his own side for crying out loud. (Which means he’ll never get the role on the 2nd pairing since it’s a shut down pair btw). Atm he’s behind Rielly, Muzzin, and Giordano so it’s going to be at least a couple years before he even gets a starter’s role. He won’t even be top 4 for around 5 years since he’ll be waiting for Rielly to start to go downhill. Man.

Btw… hello Cush, Aaron, and everyone else

If the Jets absolutely poop the bed like I think they will this year, Wheeler could be an interesting guy at the deadline.

The Jets don't get anything at his cap hit.

But of they retain half? Wheeler at 4.25M for a season and a half isnt bad. Pretty poor defensively but as a scoring playmaking winger he would do fine at 2LW.

Hey Dozzer - good to see you back!

As far as Sandin, I agree he has a couple year wait so if he isn't willing to do so time to move him and get something back.

My guess is the only reason they’re holding onto him is because atm he’s not worth anything in the trade market.

Gio is a few years from retirement and Muzzin is likely gone next season. Sandin doesn't need to be atop 4 this year.

Like every year there will be injuries and he will get his opportunity to play higher up in the lineup.

Feeling okay… bit of a battle… they’ll be plugging me back into the epilepsy ward sometime in the new year so we’re going to ensure we buy a new tablet so I can easily watch the leaf games while I’m there lol

And like I was mentioning the only reason I don’t think he has been traded since the market for guys like him is next to nothing currently.

How’s things with you?

Yes, he’s playing behind a 38 and a 33 year who’s only alive because of the medical sorcery of our very own Max. I think you overestimate his defensive liabilities and underestimate his ability to move the puck up the ice. Oh and he actually shoots the puck from the point on the PP.

Now get the (frank) to PEI and eat a potato

Sandin will never be on the 2nd pairing since that’s primarily a shut down role

Means he’s a bottom pairing guy til Rielly gives up the top pairing role
