No word on Subban as a cheap alt for the Right Hand shot? Heard a few things...

That would be a great signing.

Yes yes, there will be fluctuation etc over time, but it’s not like there are a couple cups in the bank right now for how depleted the prospect pool is. It’s shameful how poorly run the team has been over the past several regimes.
- 1970vintage

The prospect pool is not as bad as most make it out to be.

As I said in 2017 Flyers had the best prospect pool over the Canucks. Canucks prospects since then have wiped the (frank)en floor with Flyers prospects.

The last few GM's have not been good. Benning has put some good players into the NHL quite a few on other teams was probably his worst mistake.

Between Gillis and Benning but during their time as GM's I looked to see how many players they drafted, acquired, signed that had eclipsed the 50 point mark. I think Gillis had 4 players. Benning has managed 7 so far.

Huh?

If a player has success (on ice) why would they (I’m assuming you mean the team) need to trade futures to improve? Isn’t that on ice success the improvement?

- 1970vintage

Yeah sorry meant team success and improving for next level to compete better. Like cashing in futures to enhance a proven core.

Last week, we covered reports on the Calgary Flames’ attempts to sign defenseman Mackenzie Weegar to an extension. Now, we have some more details on the deal being discussed. Per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, the “general area” that the Flames are “looking at” with a Weegar extension is eight years, $6.5MM AAV, which some might remember as the parameters of Hampus Lindholm’s contract extension with the Boston Bruins.

Gezz, back again is paying for players on the back end of their careers.

That's sort of the problem with him. Skates like the wind when he's got time and space against his own competition but when he gets into tougher league where there is less time and space, he's struggled. Playing 15 minutes a night in Liiga and not scoring a lot, doesn't produce a lot of NHL defenders.

I thought I would drop this gem from September 11, 2013. Ian Esplen's take on the beginning of training camp and who to watch. Torts first. Funny stuff.

Ian sure ain't Carol.

Here’s a beauty from an old timer

“Well, you could base Luongo's ability on a larger sample size than an abbreviated season in which he was a party to a goalie controversy, and many teammates—including almost the entire D corps—had their worst season in years, and their number two center (and best PKer) and number two LW missed the majority of the season to injury...

Hard to imagine things going as poorly for the Canucks as last season.”

- Fosco

And how wrong he ended up being
