A lot people in Russia have real back luck with "falling".

"Vladimir Putin's point man for developing Russia's vast Arctic resources has died after 'falling overboard' while sailing off the country's Pacific coast.

Ivan Pechorin, 39, was managing director of Putin's Far East and Arctic Development Corporation"

Yes, but the provinces still need to decide if they are going to declare it a holiday.

Good lord, I hope not.

I can't help but compare her death to that of the police officer Andrew Hong. His death is more relevant to our lives, imho.

I don't give a rat's ass about the death of the queen, and I sure as frank don't need a day off to mourn.

I don't need a day off to mourn the Queen, but I'll take it.

But perhaps it's more fitting a tribute that crown employees do nothing that day while the masses work as usual.

the scary thing about that one:

It's so easy to kill someone in a hospital. Just inject them with something. They die in their hospital bed, nobody bats an eyelash.

To throw somebody out a hospital window is a very deliberate move - you want people to know that he was assassinated.

Then whack William, and it's another long weekend - and we wouldn't need to kill anybody else the week afterwards, because he already have the Monday off for Thanksgiving!

Of course, I'm probably going to be arrested by the British police for this post.

Right now - with no moves at all - if the Leafs were delighted by ZAR and signed him to a $900k deal, they could make no trades and carry a 12F, 6D, 2G lineup into the season and be $19k under the cap ceiling. This would presume that Simmonds, Clifford and Anderson are waived, and Sandin remains unsigned. (note, I did edit this when I realized that the Leafs have 212k in carryover bonus payments; originally I thought we could offer ZAR up to $1m).

I would still sign Subban and trade Holl. I think you'd get $1m in savings on that deal which would let you sign ZAR. That gives us about $1m to offer Sandin on a 1 year deal - assuming we're still willing to waive Clifford, Simmonds and Anderson.

This goes with the Kerfoot is staying option.

If they move Kerfoot, the flexibility is pretty nice - we could keep the $1.4x2 offer on the table for Sandin, sign ZAR and even keep Simmonds or Anderson up on the roster if we wanted to - while managing to accrue cap space for deadline moves.

We'd miss Kerfoot if we traded him. I don't think we think we would, but given the relative lack of options on the left side, and his speed and intelligence in the game, we'd probably notice his absence. I will absolutely say I'm not a fan of his game. His weak on the puck, hit way too hard way too often creating momentum swings against us, and his defensive play isn't good enough to help that 2nd line. Those complaints aside, he might be the best option we have.

perhaps a package including Sandin, Kerfoot & Muzzin to Arizona, Islanders or Jersey would solves some problems.

I see what you're getting at, but it's not the same thing. Andrew Hong's death is more relevant to Ontarians because he lived and worked here. May he rest in peace.

Canada once shared a monarchy with Britain. Canada still retains ties to the British monarchy in its Constitution

Things are about to get real in Moscow. The problem about a crazed nationalist government promising to restore the old Soviet glory and borders is that you have to, you know, restore the old Soviet borders and wipe out those pesky Ukrainians. Some even crazier dude might end up running poop

Yeah, very likely.

Half the bed would be covered with red roses, the other half covered with 12 inch spikes. Never knowing what side they'll put you on.

Here's the piece from Friedman

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly is optimistic the salary cap can get a significant boost after the 2023-24 season -- a year ahead of earlier forecasts from the league.

"I’ve seen some preliminary estimates recently which would make me more optimistic on the cap going up sooner whether that’s in two seasons or three seasons, I think it’s more likely than not two seasons rather than three," Daly said in an interview with Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek from European Media Day on Wednesday.
