What most fans don’t understand is GMs do t give a poop about year 5-8 of long contracts because if they don’t win in the first 1-4 they will be fired !!!! There job is to win and win now !! Flames are way better today then when playoffs ended ! And of Sutter wasn’t such a hard head valimaki and Mackey would have been playing instead of seriously injured Tanave and zadorov !!! Flames have a great window right now for 3-4 years and no they don’t need another forward they need to give some farm guys a shot !!!! No team wins without promotion from within - Hockeyfan4life14
Great read Trevor - I can tell a lot of time and research went into this one. It's great to hear from the delusional Oiler fans, and the smarter ones also. Time will tell, but the Flames ARE a better team as they are set up now than when last season ended. Flames as a whole are a better team than the Oilers, Calgary's # 6 and 7 defencemen (assuming that will likely be Kylington and Zadorov) either one would probably fit in either the 2, 3, or 4 spots on the Oilers. Goaltending not even close - Markstrom by a mile. Obviously high end forward talent on the Oilers is way ahead of the Flames, but I would say that forward depth is stronger on the Flames. Lindy, Kadri and Backlund down the middle is elite for centre depth, then Hubs, Mang, Coleman and Toffoli on the wings also very strong.
It should be a good year, I can see the Flames and Oilers battling it out for first in the Pacific all year.
HAHAHAHA
that makes no sense for us.
Trading a high caliber young d-man on a good contract
for some potential projects that haven't been panning out
If they want a stud like Hanifin, we better be getting quality stud player(s) back - cpltanto
They just signed Stone to PTO. 11 D, good thing to have. - K-man25
It's official, Tanev will be back for the season opener.
Flames have Ras, Hanifan, Weegar, Tanev, and Zadorov 100% to make the team.
Kylington, Mackey, and Valimaki are fighting for that last spot, Stone as the #7.
That's nine Dmen in total. Who are the other two?
Is there a chance that Stone will play with the Wranglers this year? Is there a chance he does not make the team?
IMO the best case scenario is that Kylington gets traded for some RW help; he has the highest value of all the guys fighting for that #6 spot and makes the highest salary. One of Valimaki or Mackey either clears waivers or gets traded for another floundering prospect. You have to think that neither Mackey nor Valimaki will clear waivers, even if their play is piss poor.
Hi Duran, How are you buddy? Still in somewhere tropical or you back in Canada?
Ya, I agree with you. There are too many D on the team, so I expect a trade to happen that will bring a forward back. Let's see. This team is so different than last year so I hope they gel easily and it's a great team we can watch )

Flames signed Dennis Gilbert and Nicolas Meloche both to 2 way contracts. Gilbert will most likely play for the Wranglers but I’d expect Meloche to get some games with the Flames, he’ll replace some of the sandpaper they lost with Gudbranson.
I’d say best senecio is Valimaki or Kylington is traded, not sure how much value either have. Oliver had a breakout season last year, Valimaki might have interest being a former 1st round pick. I don’t imagine anything happens til after camp though.
Also, going to the Young Stars game Friday vs the Canucks, should be lots of fun.

Gilbert signed a 1 way contract, not sure about Meloche but I believe his is 1 way too.

Kylington has a 100% chance of making the team if no trades happen and everyone is healthy.
He’s multiple tiers above Mackey at this point and Valimaki isn’t even in the conversation. The only potential competition is for the 7th spot.
Well according to cbs sports, both signed 2way contracts. - K-man25
Then CBS Sports doesn't know what a two-way contract is. Both of them have their salary fully guaranteed no matter where they play. A two-way contract means you make less if you're sent to the minors.
Meloche, Gilbert, Mackey, and Valimaki are all one-way contracts.

Hey man! All is well. I was back in Canada looking for work but have returned back to Quito. I am planning on making the move back to Canada in the next month or two. Not sure how this whole winter thing will turn out.
I think it will take the team about 20 games to gel. We have some new guys in important spots that will need some time to figure out the Sutter system.
