I’m very supportive of the new regime. I think they have one of the most complex management setups in the entire NHL. High quality people from top to bottom. But I don’t believe in the climate excuse. There’s always a climate for a good trade. Just got to have the skill to accomplish it.
Look at the Flames. They took chicken shit and turned it into chicken salad (on paper). That’s what you got to do as a organization. - bloatedmosquito
The Flames went all in on a very old roster that hasn't produced a deep playoff run yet. They have a tiny window to win then they are going to be in cap hell for years. I wouldn't use them as a model for anything |

There's one even worse scenario. But as a Canucks fan I don't dare speak it into reality. Like I said, I just can't see him walking. I'd actually take him on a similar deal to Kadri, but don't think his heart is in Canada. Could be wrong as it's just my gut feeling. - Load Management
I don't either, this is the biggest and maybe last contract of his career, he's earned everything he's got. Still VAN should have an idea of this as well if they're being honest with each other.

CAL is in a 3 year window
VAN 3 years for their window to open.

I could see Vans opening sooner than that. Young rosters can come together very quickly with the right guys improving and a couple of good additions. I'm guessing the team will be in a very different situation by this time next year. |

I’ve been flip flopping on this whole JTM situation.
At first I liked the trade.
Then folks on here talked about it being the wrong time to trade for a player like JTM (see that fallout now). Didn’t like the trade.
But he’s played so well during his time here it changed my mind. Liked the trade and wanted him to re-sign.
Seeing how difficult it is to re-sign him has changed my mind again. Now he can go (frank) himself. |

Maybe with the 2 new Russians, it will be interesting to see how "the lads" play. |

Worst case scenario, he walks, VAN get's little to nothing.
It's still better than being handcuffed into another bad long term deal. - VanHockeyGuy
This is why a suggested a potential scenario that management may in the end consider the best return being a season and playoffs out of him and then using the cap space for Petey next summer. Not what I want the situation to turn into but if the Canucks are looking like a playoff team post Xmas, look out. One things for sure, this will be the last season that both Miller and Horvat are on the Canucks together.

Really? Two teams have traded his ass. He even admitted to being immature during his time in NY and TB. Gets to Van and management gives him a chance at a leadership role. He excelled in the position given to him (not earned) and yet shows little to no loyalty for that opportunity. (frank) him. |

Using players like E Staal and Wheeler as a comparison, give him 5 years tops or send him packing. If the climate outside sucks (recent signings), then stay inside and don’t follow the crowd. |

The Landeskog and Nichushkin contracts will age very badly. Just look at the Sharks deals in the past few years. Hopefully these new AGm’s will shine a light on this never ending trend. |
