euh, not really no.
we turn the page, look to the future. this is actually a good news.

Now, the question is, do we sign Allen long term, or trade him at the TDL and pin the future on Primeau come hell or high water?

So…I thought teams have to be cap compliant when the season starts, then they can put players on LTIR??

time will tell. they could extend Allen, or go with Primeau and Montembeault, or trade/sign someone else. no hurry

Holy crap ... I thought Quantum Physics was hard.

It's pretty straight forward. The only thing that makes it look complicated is the vague reference to the conditional pick the Flames are getting from the Panthers.

When you know the conditions for each of those picks, it's pretty easy to parse.

The most likely scenario by far is Montréal gets whatever pick is higher between the Flames and Panthers in 2025.

I know it's good news in a rebuilding frame of mind but this is the goaltender who's won the most games wearing the Bleu, blanc, Rouge, he's a huge part of this team's history and he is basically being forced to retired because his body is giving up on him because he carried his team on his back for so long. In that sense, this is a very sad day.

Long story short -
If CGY picks 20-32 in 2024, Habs can choose that pick.

If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2025, and both are out of the top 10, MTL gets the best
If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2025, and CGY is in the top 10, MTL gets FLA's.

If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2026, MTL gets CGY's 1st in 2025 unless it's 1st overall
If CGY gets FLA's 1st in 2026 and CGY picks 1st in 2025, MTL gets the best of the 2 first picks in 2026.

Is what I understand. There's also 3rd and 4th rounders involved but who cares.

CGY will get FLA's 2025 1st pick, unless it wins a lottery, in which case it defaults to 2026.

a first in 3 years, and the return for Monahan at the tdl, probably a 2nd if they retain 50%.
so a 1st and a 2nd for nothing.
difficult to complain.

The kinda deals I was saying int he Spring they should make... take on expiring contracts for picks and / or prospects, try to flip at deadline, if things pan out.

You can be 10% over int he off season, as long as you are compliant day 1 of the season.

Day 1, Price goes on LTIR (and likely Byron til after Christmas), so lots of room.

oh, I knew Byron might miss the start of the season but I wasn't aware he'd miss that much time...

Not necessarily. The Giroux trade also had a conditional pick. So if Florida's pick in 2024 is in the top ten, Philly would get Florida's 2025 pick and the Flames would get the 2026. That's mostly what the nonsense in the second part of the conditions for today's trade are dealing with.

Chalk it up as another win for HuGo - gets a player and potential trade chip at the TDL, with an (eventual) first round pick for nothing - and move on... no point trying to figure it out, too many moving parts.

This HuGo thing is working out well, now to see what they can do with all the picks and prospects.

I was never worried about this move…because??? We will be catfish all year with hopefully some serious compete, losing close games and individual and TEAM growth and cohesion under the new modern group.

Ok. That’s my run-on sentence for the month. (frank)! Lol

As long as they compete hard every night and we see some development to the kids, I don't care about wins or losses.

Gonna be a fierce fight for the bottom 5 spots in the league this year.

for Primeau's sake I'd keep Allen, his development has been (frank)ed up enough as it is. I might be the only one on the "keep Allen" bandwagon, but oh well lol
