Doesn’t matter how old he was when signing contract. He will be 30 during the majority of first year. For all intensive purposes he’s 30
- Stayin alive

I have been enjoying this debate from the sidelines, but now I just have one question to everyone, is Couturier the problem on the Flyers? Does he make the team better or worse? Does his game translate for players going into their 30s, or is his game predicated on, say, speed like JG, who just signed a Mega deal at 29 years old?

I don't think Couturier is the best center in the league, just like I don't think Bergeron or Kopitar are the best centers in the league. What I do know is Bergeron and Kopitar are winners. They play the right way and they make their team's better and harder to play against. Marchand is a top 10 forward in this league and he will be the first to tell you he would be no where near that if not for Bergeron.

Get Couturier healthy again and playing with some good forwards, and the Flyers will have one part of a winning team. Couturier is part of the solution here, not part of the problem. Yes his contract is expensive, but I have no doubt Couts gets $8M+ in the open market, so I would say its a fair contract; not a steal and not an over-payment. The problem with the Flyers is their lack of a plan to surround Couts with some top-end talent, its not Couts!

Why would Sean Couturier be a problem for the Flyers?

In my opinion I don’t think the Flyers should trade Sean Couturier as much as they should shop him to see what the highest possible return is for him. Could Couturier bring back at minimum a Jeff Carter/Mike Richards like return?

Edmonton getting McDavid and Pittsburgh getting Crosby was the weirdest thing. Are the chances of a team winning a lottery that brings you those two players in a franchise where one already had Gretzky and the other Lemieux?

He makes the flyers better in a bad way. He is not part of the solution.

This team is far away from contending. This dumb ass GM has made it clear he has no intention to build around ex selke. So what purpose does he serve here if not going to help him out to try and win (not saying that is the direction they should go). Have to question his desire to win as well after him seeing this shct show up close for the last 10 years.

He has also made it clear he is not rebuilding. So keeping him around accomplishes what?

Scott sits back and allows this nonsense to continue as he clearly learned nothing from how the prior GM handled this team.

This just a flat out poorly run organization from top to bottom.

$7.75 is not an unreasonable contract for a good 2-way 70 point guy.

The NMC and length of the contract are more concerning than the salary, honestly.

Some teams are shameless when it comes to targeted tanking.

Speaking of which, the 'Hawks are totally gonna get Bedard.

There is no shame in targeting high end talent for a number of seasons. A lot of successful teams have done that. This fanbase is craving for someone exciting to market.

It shows a clear direction, and plan for the future.

The Flyers are simply arrogant to think they can sidestep such an approach.

I’m sure fans of Pittsburgh, Chicago, Tampa, and Washington are so upset at winning all those games over the years.

Oiler, and Leaf fans are just distraught being forced to watch elite players bore them night, after night.

Anyone that openly supports the process for next season is going to get exactly what they deserve. An embarrassing product that is somehow going to try to raise itself based on a few more fights.

The Hawks just had awful ownership that happened to pass away. They never would have tried to win if the old owner did not pass away. The Pens were terrible at the right time twice.

The Flyers have very much of a similar issue regarding ownership.

I will maintain that things don’t change until Scott is no longer involved. Nobody wants a meddling owner, but he’s shown to be completely unaware to the incompetence around him.

Ends may justify the means, but that doesn't mean there isn't a permanent air of stink from the way they went about it. And I'm mostly talking about the Pens here, especially the 83-84 tank job.

Flyers ownership has issues, but it's nowhere near as bad as the Bill Wirtz thing.

There's a big difference between what the Pens did and when a team moves older players or future assets because the team is not in position to win. The latter is not tanking.
