He simply cannot grasp that. He keeps making comparison to Bergeron, as if that is actually part of the discussion. The athletic article links details how Couturier is in fact a 1C and how he makes the players he plays with better. He'll counter with the Flyers aren't going to be a good team. As if that in any way refutes the argument given on Couturier as an individual player. He has actually posted numerous times that Couturier blows.

You believe signing a 30! year old to a 8 year contract is a “steal”

You (frank)ing cite lmao the athletic as proff of anything.

Fraud

Couturier is 29. The Athletic article gives the proof that Couturier is a 1C and that he makes players he plays with better.

LMAO. How can you be this clueless. The facts are not from the athletic you clown. The Athletic uses statistical facts taken from legitimate stat sources in the article.

Sure they do👍🏻

Keep believing that

His bday is in December. He’s 30 2 months into new contract.

To be accurate

How much of season is he playing at age 29? How at 30?

Guess what. He’s 30.

Again wrong fraud

Go back to reading the athletic 😂😂😂😂

Couturier was in fact 29 when the contract was signed. You can't even get that simple fact correct.

Doesn’t matter how old he was when signing contract. He will be 30 during the majority of first year. For all intensive purposes he’s 30

Big Coots fan here and he earned his contract based on what he done for us over the years. That said, I am still worried about the length based on his injury history and his age. He's played his a$$ off for us for a long time so lots of mileage as he hits his 30s. If healthy, he can be productive, but I sadly don't see him racking up points like he did a few years ago with the current supporting cast. Hard to believe how long its been since his playoff series vs the Pens.

That right there is bad. It's never a good idea to pay anyone based on past performance. It doesn't matter what field you are a manager in. Paying for past performance will get you in trouble. This is exactly why I think this is a bad contract. We can all argue until we are blue in the face cause only time will tell how it plays out, but I think we may have already seen the best of Coots. I really wonder how many teams Coots would actually be the #1 center on. He would be an ideal #2 center for a true contender.

It's too funny that JG autographed that sign the other day that said to FIRE CHUCK! FIRE CHUCK! Thanks again!

I hear you and I don't like the contract, but that is sadly how it goes in sports. He got the contract based on him being one of our best players for several years. (Ryan Howard says hi). Again, I'm a Coots fan but I also agree he is on the downside of his career. I don't like the contract but understand why he got it. I really don't see him ever putting up numbers like he did a few years ago. I agree he would definitely be an ideal #2 center for a contender. I just hope he stays somewhat healthy and is able to mentor guys like Frosty, Tipper, etc.

You absolutely can not be the team that signs the coots deal. In a cap world it’s a killer. As much as it pains us fans.

You want example of a “steal” contract?

Go look at what the record selke 5 time winner just signed. That’s a “steal” now compare it to slightly above average coots

- Stayin alive

Bergeron is also coming up on 37 years old and just wanted to play in Boston for one more season with Krejci, not sure this is a fair comparison.

curious as to your definition of slight.

every year or almost everyone gets really excited about the dominant seniors in college hockey that are hitting free agency. remember testwuide?

- Peter Richards

My explained my definition, O'Brien was drafted 19th by the Flyers, but was projected to go in the late 1st or early 2nd round. That is what I consider to be a slight reach. I dramatic reach would be what Boston did in 2015 when they picked DeBrusk I think 13th overall, whereas he was projected to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
