I’m not ruling out that TDA and York are on separate units. Probably going to be somewhat frequent changes throughout the season.

We'll have to see what the new coaching staff is going to do. What setup they use.

Both did look good early haha. Ellis really could have been a great add if he wasn’t entirely broken. I think that Provy might not get the first look, I could be wrong tho.
- ClaudeFather

Maybe not the first look, but he'll be the last man standing again

Chuck knows Provy stinks on the PP, that's why he keeps going after dudes like Gus, Yands, Ellis... let's see if TDA can break the current streak of absolute disaster additions to the PP or not.

Did they shoot him in along with the puck or something?

Is it the coaches or Chucks decision to continue to put him on the top unit PP?

He has a good wrist shot and could be OK as the 2nd dman on the 2nd unit, but not as the PP QB. He thinks too slowly to be a fit for that role
- Feanor

Absolutely. The problem with this mindset that Provorov isn’t or can’t be good on the PP is we’ve been spoiled by better. Provorov might not be able to run a PP like Gostisbehere, Streit or Timonen but he’s not offensively useless.

To add to my point, I think we should move on from the umbrella formation. We’ve become predictable.

Have we even seen a right handed defenseman handled the number one PP unit since Eric Desjardins?

He should have gotten a look in the past couple because the personnel was terrible but we have a short term gap in TDA and York would be your build for the future. I could see York being the feature on PP1 by year end.
- ClaudeFather

I don’t disagree but I’ll say this about the umbrella formation of the power play. It leaves risk of a possible odd man rushes short handed if not properly executed. It also really leaves one player protecting the blue line at all times (the defenseman) at the center of the blue line. I understand that both forwards protecting the half wall shift up to the blueline if needed but in most cases you’re suppose to direct your attention to attacking the net.

Can you name one team that doesn’t use the umbrella formation on the PP?

You’re on the attack, it’s a power play. Obviously you don’t wAnt to turn the puck over but come on man. This is a ridiculous post.

Teams no longer overload in this league, having two players cover each point? That’s what I remember of the Flyers pre Laviolette.

It’s a bit of a mix nowadays but they almost all use the umbrella formation. The caps for instance, the puck is usually in somewhat of an overload just because Ovie is out on an island drawing a PKer out there but they still use the umbrella formation. They have the luxury of running that bumper play more easily with Oshie because Ovie draws so much attention.
Tampa would be more of your standard umbrella

And unfortunately we don’t really have a big shot like Ovie on this team. In fact I can’t even think of a player on this squad with a really dangerous one timer off the top of my head.

I agree, we should probably look at other setups. But not because of odd man rushes.

Most of them do. Team Canada couldn't put out a full roster without our two scrubs filling it out.

Doesn’t answer the question. They had other options they could have tried.

I didn’t mean we should find another set up because the umbrella format could cause odd man rushes (which is certainly a fear because we’re a lot less talented now without Giroux). I suggested this purely because we’re pretty predictable. We might not have this problem with all of our original cast moving on but I’m hoping we try something new.

He’s been pretty impressive in both games. Definitely a player at that level.

Does anyone know why Foerster is only getting 12 minutes a game? The lineups have him in the top 6. Desnoyers had more TOI in the last game. Hoping he’s not injured.

Risto and Sanheim were not given a real opportunity on the top unit.

They kept Provorov out there despite dismal results.

Is Sanheim here long term or is he going to be flipped at the TDL (if we're not a playoff bound team ) For some reason I'm expecting the later, but that would be a shame hes one of few home grown D Men who has actually evolved into a good player.
