Being better than Frost or Tippet is easily attainable. Not a high bar. Cates I do not see getting 18 goals though won’t be shocked in the least if he becomes the better of the 3. He is very smart player. Puts himself in the right position.

Who is on your full roster of healthy?

- furio16

Noah Cates, 23 years of age and drafted in the 5th round of the 2017 draft. You can see him simply step into the line up and be better than two first rounders after five years of waiting for his chance? Not saying this is impossible but what is this based on? A short sample size at the end of last season when the team already mailed it in?

(Center)
Sean Couturier, Kevin Hayes, Morgan Frost, Patrick Brown

(Left Wing)
James van Riemsdyk, Joel Farabee, Scott Laughton, Nick deslauriers

(Right Wing)
Cam Atkinson, Travis Konency, Owen Tippett, Zac MacEwen

Unless Noah Cates plays a second forward spot outside of LW or someone gets hurt long term, who’s spot does he take?

Every year some players miss at least some time. The projection just basically allowed that the missed time by forwards added up to 70+ games. Farabee isn’t expected to start the season. He plays either wing when healthy. Players like Laughton get moved around all year for the injured. Maybe someone like Ratcliffe or Allison gets N. Cates spot, but I thought he was most likely.

You disagree and that it fine.

And Tippet’s my guess for a bit of a breakout….

I’m with ya, I see 25 from him. He’s going to get a ton of ice and opportunities

Where they are drafted means very little at this point. Tippet and Frost have played like 5th round picks this far.

His short sample size was better than the 2 others sample size. He is a smart player. Higher IQ than the other 2 imo. Keep in mind he played for a defensive mind coach in college. Maybe that helps him with Torts.

The new coach has no attachment to anyone. If Cates plays like he did to end the year he will be in the lineup opening night.

Where they were drafted does mean little but Cates doesn’t have nearly as much NHL exposure as the other two. All of which still have upside. I think the problem with what I’m reading from you is, you have more faith in the unknown then the known. The short sample size is trying to get a job. The other two have a job.

What is known is Tippet and Frost have not lived up to their draft status. They have under performed. Tippet on better team was given numerous chances and failed.

Cates is a rookie. Obviously he doesn’t have the same amount of NHL games as the others.

With a new coach it isn’t a given those 2 have a job. They likely do though I bet that leash may not be that long. Performance will dictate that.

There is also a difference between Frost and Tippet. Tippet didn't miss a full season of development due to injury.

Yes there is I agree. Still doesn’t change the fact he has not impressed.

We shall see what he has as the opportunity is there this season.

This is a good question! I'm so used to having several injuries on the team that I never thought about where Cates would slot if everyone is healthy. I still can't see them playing both ND and Zac unless necessary due to injuries. That said, I want to see Cates get a lot of ice time and not be on the 4th line.

All three have never seen a full season in the NHL and fans already have the trio on one line together that they expect to be successful.

I look at it differently. Not saying that he has but I think it's too soon with all the factors to expect him to have impressed to this point. This season is when he has to take big steps forward. He should be 100% healthy.

Thanks for reminding us about Frosty being injured and missing a season of development! While you are at it, is Hexy the greatest gm of all time? Was acquiring Risto a bad move? Did Nashville get the last laugh on Chuckles with the Ellis trade? Inquiring minds want to know.

Team colors were always the best in the league to me, though I must say I am loving the Kraken uniforms also.

Logo is not so sacred you can do without it once as an alternate.

And be bold and introduce, hold on, a FOURTH color.

That color? BLUE. have it nearly replace the black

And if you think that sounds weird, it works for U of Fla & Broncos.

The "boss" often points this (the injury) out about Frosty whenever someone dares to question his ability, etc. I'm not even on here everyday and well aware about Frost's history thanks to the boss. I have nothing against Frost...he could turn out to be another Coots or another Jordan Weal. I am looking forward to seeing him getting quality ice time this season.

So in your opinion, when looking at Frost as a player. Do you think it's fair to take into consideration that he has missed a full season. That he has only played 77 NHL games due in part to his injury. Is that a relevant factor? He made the team out of camp only to get injured and out for the year. When comparing one player of the same age to another, is it not a relevant factor? I think it is but if you don't, that's on you.

The bulk of your two replies is just childish bullpoop nonsense. I'm here everyday. If you have something to say, I'm around.

Yes, I do agree that it is fair to take it into consideration and it is certainly a factor in his overall development. I was never disregarding that point.

My childish bs nonsense was about your constant reminders that Frost was hurt. I can't speak for everyone but I sincerely thank you for keeping us all informed, insulting us, and chastising us whenever we don't see things your way.

I also know that you are here every day. Enjoy your 20 plus hours reading comments and arguing with people on HB! Hopefully you get paid for all of your hard work. Go Flyers! Hexy is the GOAT!!

As fantastic as EVH’s soloing was, he also ripped some iconic riffs. He doesn’t get enough credit for what he laid down backing Roth’s singing and caterwauling.

What he pulled off between ‘77 and ‘83 was pretty insane.

That eponymous debut album is an all-timer for hard rock releases. Probably top 10 for the genre, if not top 5. Yet I still probably like Fair Warning, more.

If I was a ball player, my walk up music would probably be the riff that explodes in Mean Street right after his opening 30 second noodle.
