It IS August 9th. There's not much to talk about hockey-wise. We could talk about the two decent signings the Bruins made and how we hope that age catches up to the whole team, including prematurely affecting Pastrnak - because exposure to old people is contagious. You get all cantankerous. And itchy. But that could just be scabies. But I digress.

Or we could lament how the Bruins keep getting good deals and then logically go down the rat hole of whether or not Dubas is giving out fair-value contracts or overpaying, and then come to the knee-jerk conclusions that obviously since we can't trade Tavares, that trading Marner or Nylander for cap space is clearly the answer to winning a cup.

Or we talk baseball and everyone female doges.

Or we talk about topics that are typically taboo in most non-specific boards: politics and religion. That leads to all sorts of other issues because it affects people at their core and you're just not going to get anywhere there anyway. If someone were willing to be swayed politically or philosophically by some random words on the internet, their entire life would be living like a kite in the wind.

how long before Pasta gets traded because the Bruins will not pay him 9.5~10M on an 8 year contract?

I've never been a huge fan of Serena Williams, but mad props to her for this:

Way back in the good ol' days of swine and roses, we used to go to My Apartment on Peter Street in Toronto after work for $2 beers and a good time on Thursdays & Fridays. Just about 22 years ago, it was a Friday and it was my 30th birthday. So we were all out at the Apartment at 4pm as we were wont to do, and had some tables on the patio. It was gonna be a good night.

Unfortunately my friends all had stuff to do - cottages, parents, commitments - "Happy Birthday and all - I promise we'll get you a drink next week," and so on. Group by group, one-by-one they departed.

My future wife had already told me that she had plans for us anyway, but I was sort of more looking for the party with our friends atmosphere - not some night with her and her sister (and no this doesn't delve into some terrible "I never thought it would happen to me," story). Regardless, soon there were so few people left that I had really no reason to stay and acceded to her wish that we should go.

Piled into a cab and blindfolded, she proceeded to take me to our destination (which the cab driver gave away about 10 minutes in, "Medieval Times is this way, right?"

Nevertheless she persisted with the blindfold, and we got there and she had arranged a massive surprise party of pretty much everyone I knew - including friends coming in from Barrie, and the US and so on. "Little 30 year old" me was knighted along with a group of 4, 5, 6, 7 and a spattering of 8 and 9 year olds.

It was a fantastic time, and Medieval Times is a great show for people of all ages. I had friends who were heckling, "You suck, Green Knight!" with bellowing voices - and the jouster/actors played along - even stopping by the seats to make menacing gestures.

It's been 22 years and I was good and lubricated, and I still remember that night vividly. Obviously I'd give most of the credit to my wife, but she couldn't have picked a better venue.

Never likes her that much either, but damn was she ever dominant.
- Fakepartofme

I've got tix for tomorrow night.

I might see her second-last match, ever.

Or her last ever professional win.

Of course, I'm going to make my digital ticket into an NFT, and make thousands and thousands of dollars.

Two quick points:

1. Oh frank yes! to My Apartment.

2. Oh frank yes! to the entire rest of the story.

Shameful admission: I've never actually been to Medieval Times. My kids are probably too old (too cool) to go now, so I think it will have to be a drunken mob of old, smelly guys (and maybe wives?).

His contract is up next year and he's a UFA. This is a, for all intents and purposes, 3 time 40 goal scorer. Boston has a way of squeezing players, but Pasta is going to warrant a significant raise. They will have a metric ton of cash available given that they have about 9 UFAs on the roster - but of course then they have the fun of filling those spots while still juggling loyalty to aging the core (Bergeron and Krejci will be, again, UFAs)

They did go to $9.5 for McAvoy, and they would be very mistaken if they didn't see Pasta as part of the future carrying the team's successful legacy forward and pay him as such, but I still think they're going to lowball him.

It sounds a bit overblown, but with Bergeron at 37, Krejci at 36, Marchand at 34 and Hall at 30, losing Pastrnak could be the trigger towards a rebuild - even if the Bruins will have buckets of money for free agents next year. It's been a very successful run and maybe they have more in them, but the youth coming up isn't sufficient to supplant the aging talent - so at some point soon, the team will have to make some moves.

More Refs than posters now..

Congrats Aaron. Good luck.

Under 50 posts a day.

- bixll

What's the point of the comment about the # of Refs here and the # of posts?

Are you insinuating that we should just let people post whatever they want because there are "under 50 posts per day"?

I'm asking because my first interpretation of your comment is something along those lines and I'm hoping I'm wrong.

Thank you, I couldn't agree more.

Baseball talk is at least sports related but the taboo subjects that aren't discussed at most dinner tables shouldn't be discussed here - Religion and Politics. I keep saying this and asking people to stop but it crops up here and there and I have and will continue to not allow it for the exact reasons you have mentioned.

Pure observation. After 14 years of being on here.

Just ban me if you don't like it. I care not.

I don't care if you have been here 14 minutes or 14 years the rules apply to everyone and those who choose not to follow them risk being banned - yourself included.

It has zero to do with me liking it or not, it's not personal for me.

Awesome, Thanks.. My Granddaughter has had 2 major brain surgeries a little over 4.5 million dollars of work done to her. She started walking while we were there 2 weeks ago. Amazing for a girl that had her brain cut in half via laser at 6 months old. And she is a beautiful little Papa's girl.

You don't get to 'speak the truth' in the comment section of a privately run/owned website/blog.

Now you sure can if you stand on the street corner on a milk crate with a bullhorn like the preacher at Younge and Dundas.

I saw on twitter Rangers are going to name Trouba as the Captain, and someone commented it was because captains don't get suspended in the NHL.
