Put a good team in front of him and he'll be an above-average NHL starter. Has the pedigree and talent to do so and, more important, has shown the ability to do so. Environment and structure matter greatly for a goalie. Unless your Dominik Hasek in his Buffalo days, it's hard to find a goalie who completely rises above a porous team in front of him on a consistent basis.
Even stats like "saves above replacement" can be deceptive. When the team in front of you gives up too many back-door goals where the goalie doesn't a have a chance (which doesn't hurt a goalie in that metric) PLUS is prone to screening their own goalie (which can hurt a goalie since shot location is what matters for it) PLUS regularly provides its goalie with scant margin for error due to anemic goal support, it's very easy for goalies to eventually start letting in a "stoppable one."
Mike McKenna has very interesting thoughts on the subject of what the team-in-front to goalie-play balance is, and it's not necessarily something that is well measured in stats. - bmeltzer
Many if not all NHL level starting goalies can make that claim
You're a fool. 4th in Norris Trophy voting and 2nd team all NHL. He is a dominant player. - MJL
You don't watch him .. you have no idea what you are talking about. I don't care how many people voted for him. He is a good player, but McAvoy is not an elite defenseman in this league. And back to what we were talking about before you interjected more of your nonsense, Rask was nothing more than a system goalie, and everyone inside hockey knows it. Thus is not surprising you wouldn't know it.

Devan Dubnyk would be a good example of that. The Wild D men were top 5 in the league when Dubnyk had his few good years. Before that, he wasn’t very good in Edmonton or Buffalo.
You know what though, Provorov should have been every bit as good or even better than McAvoy. Provey came out of the 2015 draft class be touted as possibly the best defenseman in the draft while McAvoy was drafted 14th a year later in a very weak draft. The fact that McAvoy today is well ahead of Provey is a black mark on the Flyers, and on Provey himself.
Playoff runs in 12/13 22 GP SV% .940 GAA 1.88. 18/19 24GP SV% .934 GAA 2.02
All time playoff stats. .925 2.22 - MJL
And yet, the Bruins since Rask has been their starter have 0 Cups, and twice when the games mattered the most Rask puked all over himself. You see, that is the difference between watching the games and looking at stats all day.

You couldn't possibly make a more empty idiotic post. I feel sad for you. Do yourself a favor and take some time to review what you posted here.

It takes more than just a goalie to win a Stanley Cup. Your opinion is not supported by the facts. You seem to believe that the fallacy of watching the games means anything here. As if you know who watches and who doesn't. Your posting on teams you claim to watch proves that it carries no weight whatsoever. You make a fool of yourself on a daily basis.

Please .. how many people are you going to argue with on this forum?? And you are calling me sad?? Please, you need to look in the mirror, seriously, you do!

You have no idea what you are talking about, and frankly I really don't want to waste my time trying to explain it to you. You don't live here, you don't know what people think of Rask around these parts. You can call me names all you want, the last ditch effort of someone who has no clue!

I stick to the facts. You can't offer any. Do you know how stupid comments of "you don't watch the games", fallacies of "everybody know it" etc make you look? Your replies are petulant and empty of any intelligence whatsoever.

You don't live in Philadelphia. Does that render your opinions on the Flyers mute? Do you really think what people think of Rask around these parts means anything. As if you truly know the opinions of the masses.
Speaking of another classic jd250 contradiction. First it's "everyone inside of hockey knows it" concerning Rask. Concerning MacAvoy, you don't care how many people inside of hockey voted for him. Just can't make it up.

I’m from the north east, plenty of bruins fans think Rask is a great goaltender. You clearly hang with like minded people

It’s a good thing these Rask comments of only being a system goalie came along. They totally overshadowed this Absurd notion that this coming season would be make or break for Hart. I’ve never seen a bigger wave of luck.
Right handed 3rd basemen (catch left) reach across their body to rob someone on the 3rd baseline - not what goalies do.
There have been roughly 7 left handed 3rd basemen in history. What you’re suggesting is a left handed 3rd basemen flashing the leather down the 3rd base line, turning his whole body to face first or second to make a throw.
A) there’s a reason there aren’t many left handed 3rd basemen in history because that play would be near impossible at the pro level and B) this would suggest Carter Hart plays full-right, which he does not.
Kind of sounds you like just don’t get it - black_francis
I loved that Yankee GREG lol Nettles...
Now if Hart can hit some doubles into the Gap i'd be stoked....
I see some folks discussing Caaater Haaat. I brought him up last week and said it was time for him to man up! He needs to get physically and mentally stronger(stop with the damn injuries and temper tantrums). That being said, I don't think this is a make or break year for him. He has won at every level he has played and he was basically the only reason that the Flyers beat the Habs in that 2020 playoff series. He has the ability, but he is 24 years old now and needs to lose the KID label. I certainly wouldn't be giving up on him regardless of what happens this year, but I want to see more consistency from beginning to end. I still don't like that crouch he goes into however cause it makes him look small in net, but I guess that's the style he has always played. I dunno......FIRE CHUCK! Thanks!

Just stop with the injuries. Just simply stop… - SuperSchennBros
Ummmmm no, he has been injured the last couple of seasons and didn't finish out the schedule. It's very much a part of the discussion whether you like it or not.
