Phish are an excellent jam band, a modern day version of the Allman Bros or Grateful Dead. Their guitarist is excellent. I'm taking my son to see Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs at the Danforth later this month. Should be fun. - winsix
I love Mike Campbell. He’s a *fantastic* guitarist.

Hey Rick - how are you?
A while back you asked me what I thought of Marc Broussard. In a couple of weeks, I'll be on a Mediterrean cruise and he's one of the performers. Not a cruise guy per se but it should be fun. Going to get my Gibson Jumbo signed by Tommy Emmanuel

Krejci signs for one year - Canada Cup
For $1m. It's worth the risk. He wasn't much of a factor last time in the NHL, but he wasn't a liability either. He adds offensive depth and skill and a solid understanding of the Bruins' system.

I don’t know that I’d say he wasn’t much of a factor last time in the NHL. He scored at a 71pt pace his last year. I’m not saying he’s going to light the world on fire, but I’d imagine 50pts is reasonably attainable.

Good explanation on Blair and Barker. Catcher needs to be waiting for the the throw in a spot that provides the runner a clear path. If he needs to block the runner’s path in order to catch the ball, that’s fine. Also, once he gets the ball he’s free to block the plate. The Twins’ catcher did neither - he blocked the plate and didn’t provide a clear path.
Merrifield was smart. He said he knew how the catcher was set up and just slid directly in, knowing how the rule would be interpreted. - Canada Cup
For sure. And I agree it's the correct call. But were I the ump, I wouldn't have called it catchers interference. Because I feel it's a decision that would need to be made by the review guys.

The call was correct, Sanchez set up to catch the ball 2 feet in front of the plate. He didn't get pulled in front of the plate by the throw, he was already there.
Baldelli (appropriate name) probably reacted the same way many other managers would have, but publicly putting down the umpires and the league is not the smartest approach. - winsix
Absolutely. He's an idiot for going full blast like he did, because the call was technically correct.

Anything is possible - my comment was based on the 8 goal season (13 prorated) last time he played in the NHL. After the trade, he played largely with Hall and Smith - and they were exceptionally successful together. Prior to the trade, he was playing with Ritchie and Smith and they were less successful, but still very good together.
He was less successful with other linemates - but I think he and Smith paired up nicely together.
The only reason I'd temper expectations is that he just played a year in the AHL-lite. He was very good there - but I mean so was 39 year old Tomas Plekanec, or 34 year old never-was Peter Mueller, neither of whom would be playing in the NHL either.
I have no crystal ball, and I'm not trying to be an ass - I just have my reservations about him; we'll see if he amps up to NHL competition at 36 after playing at a noticeably lesser pace for a year.

He was a 50 point second line centre last time in the NHL...how is that not a factor?

I saw that on Jays in 30 last night.
I mean, who am I to argue with an MLB umpire, but it sure looked like an out to me. - Atomic Wedgie
Up until 2014, it was very likely an out. Starting in 2014 when they started to "place more importance on player safety" (or take their sweet assed time to overreact to Buster Posey's broken leg as the result of a collision at home plate in 2011), they changed the rules to protect the catcher, but also had to alleviate some of the rules so catcher's couldn't unfairly block the plate if they weren't allowed to be destroyed when making a play.
By the letter of the written rule, it has technically always been interference to block a runner from the plate before you have possession of the ball - but that was never called before 2014. The fact that he blocked the plate before he'd caught the ball is the sticking point on this play.

So keep in mind I'm not a huge baseball guy, but it sure looked to me like he didn't block the plate until he had the ball.
