We all as sports fans know that there is an ebb and flow to building teams and a percentage that then translate to success and near misses and others to failure. The Flyers seem to have been stuck in place for about two years now only losing players yet not gaining much/any ground on internal growth. They were already ebbing before that so it feels like longer. As a fan, my loyalty remains through that normal ebb and flow, whether or not it results in success or failure. It’s about the journe

What I do not expect as a fan is for my team to be allowed to remain in stagnation. I can fully support that injuries and poor coaching were a large part of the issues during these two years. If a new coaching staff and better health, show a vibrant young core that we can build around; then yes, my loyalty will not feel wasted. If they crash and let’s say we don’t have at least 3 players age 27 and under with 50+ points regardless of where the team finishes, I will expect more drastic rebuild methods and more draft picks than we currently have going forward. If those do not occur, no resurgence and no rebuild, and the expectation is just mediocre to poor finishes with an absence of a plan and clear direction to achieve success, then my loyalty will not have been deserved.

Stuck in place for about two years now? Seriously. They've been stuck in place for over a decade. Not sure what you're looking at. It is about the journey and as a fan, you're on board if the journey is taking the right path. They're not. Only during the Hextall years was the team attempting to take the right path. They were on the wrong path before that and after as well as now. I don't support a journey down the wrong path.

Yea, not much to hope for currently but I'll keep watching them and rooting for them. Pretty simple solution for those who complain about the Flyers every day...don't watch and don't follow. There are other teams out there.

You seem to think that complaining as a fan makes someone a lesser fan. Why doesn't a fan have the right to complain with the product that the team is putting out? Complaining about the team does not mean that one is not rooting for them to succeed. A fan has a right to that.

It is tough to know at times if it is truly wrong or simply not a path one would have chosen. Ever been in a group with stubborn, crazy folks who want the “scenic” route? More than one way to get to a destination…the army crawl down the bunny-sized forest trail type. Yes, we made it back to camp.

It is not difficult for any informed fan to know that the team is journeying down the wrong path.

Wow, This site has more crying than a maternity ward. I have been a Flyers fan since 1970. We had some great years and some bad years and I will continue to root for them. We only got a small sampling of Allison, but I think he can really help this team if he can finally stay healthy. Right now the Flyers are not stacked with talent, but if some of the Veterans get healthy and the kids start to fit in, then things may change sooner than later? We're no way near the Cup, but things will get better. I guess I'm one of the few glass half full people on this site?

I just find it so hard to understand why people come to the page just to badmouth the team over and over. Now the Fire Chuck every day I'm ok with, but it seems like even if a fan (and yes I am a fan of this team, good or bad, its fun for me to take a break from the 2 jobs I have to catch any games I can), why spend your spare time telling others your wrong for liking the team. Its sports entertainment, My life does not depend on it, Sure I would love more 2010 seasons, but thats the fun of the game, you never know what team or player is going to do something amazing. Though we've been BAD for the last decade its not just on management, GM's, coaches, Its been a terrible mix of draft picks not living up to expectations, injuries, some team cohesion issues at times, but hey thats the fun of watching. Even our league worst year I enjoyed the fact that Knuble worked to come back for the last few games after that nasty eye injury when I believe he could have just canned the season, Personal leadership moments like that stick out, even on a dumpster fire of a season like that.

As a fan there were some seasons and moments I wouldn’t trade for the world. The 97 run. The 00 team Im still disappointed didn’t go further. Our run to the finals. Pronger! The possible jailable beating emery gave holtby that was a turning point for that season, roenicks pregame locker room events Coatseys corner, Seeing Lindblom return to the ice so much quicker than expected. We didn’t win a cup but I remained a fan for some awesome moments. I don’t see the last 30 years as flushable sir.

In Boston this type of thinking is what we would hang our hats on year after year. Then Tom Brady arrived and everything changed. Its a losers mentality to reminisce about ultimate failures. In Boston, for years we talked about the "Impossible Dream" team, the 1967 Red Sox, who ultimately failed to win the World Series. Heck, we even had a championship parade for Ray Bourque, who won his Cup in Colorado!! This type of thinking is a disease that needs to be purged. If this franchise is ever going to move forward, it has to start with the tolerance of the fans! Empty seats and poor streaming numbers is what invokes change.

Do you think the situation the team finds itself in has anything to do with the mind set of the fans?

The failure of the last decade + is really easy to understand, this franchise was not committed to either rebuilding or continuing to try to buy a championship team. Franchises like Tampa and Colorado have demonstrated how to build a team in the modern cap world, but the Flyers have consistently wanted to have one toe in the pool and the other in the ocean, and that's the chief source of their issues. Still, the Flyers have missed badly on several top draft picks and have been poor in player development, the impact of which should not be discounted.

There's people out there that complain about the ending of movies...but sports is different?

Please learn to read. The comment had nothing to do with whether Hextall was good or bad. Had to do with the methods and approach used.

The method was not correct though. They were going nowhere.

Hextall set this team back also, totally wasted opportunity having him as the GM. Did nothing to get better talent with him as the GM. Helped the cap, but did not get us any difference makers. Trading Schenn hurt big time, that led us to the Hayes contract.
