Since you wouldn't trade those moments for the world, then surely you would not trade them for a few Stanley Cups, since they would be part of that world. In other words, you find a fight, a press conference, a disco dance, a remarkable cancer recovery in a so far utterly unimpactful career more worthwhile than the actual memory of attaining what the game is structured to attain.
Yes, I know its a figure of speech, but I think so was Glak18's characterization. Who is a loser technically? A person who who becomes distracted and sidetracked from the real issues, and gets fixated/obsessed/worked-up on things that are sideshows.
No offense to you personally by the way. Just illustrating something. - PT21
Does winning the cup make all life better, I enjoy watching the games, had some great times at games, Flew to Tampa for the game 7 loss last minute after we came from behind late to tie the game and won game 6 in overtime, Broke my ceiling fan blade when I was celebrating that tying goal from Primeau. Didn't win the cup, but enjoyed every second of that run. I have absolutely no problem with them not winning, I didn't stop watching hockey because Tampa went on to win the cup, That's the fun of the sport. If you only want to win try xbox you can always just hit reset when its not going your way. Don't think any part of my enjoyment is "old school" The first Flyers games I watch were Detroit beating them in the 97 playoffs, Not a great start to fall in love with a team, but didn't stop me any. I'm not paid to watch, I do it for enjoyment, win or lose we usually find a way to enjoy it. |

When was the last time you found anywhere near that level of enjoyment in watching the Flyers?

in a funny way I enjoyed watching them get their ass kicked last season. Need one more like that to possibly hope for real change.

The last two seasons have been terrible. Not many great moments for sure however that’s how most fans feel. The team is feeling it with lacking ticket sales merchandise and ratings. I yet I still read Bills column every day and am still a fan. I just can’t sit and write how much everyone and everything sucks. If I feel that way I just stop watching |

Are they though as I haven't seen anything to indicate this. Not saying your wrong and hope you are correct.
Would love to know what type of dip they actually had.

As disappointing as it is, it’s pretty easy to recall:
- the month or so before the Covid shutdown
- 2012 series vs the Pens
- 2010 run to the Cup Final
Those are precisely the last three times in the last 12 years. 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s there were more or less constant moments of enjoyment and hope (even when things weren’t unicorns and rainbows). However not much since that magical run in ‘10. |

I was basing that on the people attendance at games I’ve gone to and the fact I kept getting lower seats for fifty to seventy bucks which was unheard of. I got a club box for half what I got a few years ago but maybe they’re all paid tickets n people just are not going. I’ve not seen a game where the energy was there since the final game before the lockdown which I was at |

Even if paid tickets were close the actual amount of people showing up were thin, Guarantee the concessions and other vendors are starving compared to a few years back - not that the gas and recession (that we're not in apparently) don't help. |

I didn't go to any games late last year, They still take CASH or is it CC only like Citizens bank park. Odd times when cash is not acceptable. |

was not aware they didnt take cash.
Going to a Flyers game is just not worth the cost if you like to eat and drink. Can easily drop $500 for 2 when you include the ticket.

It is tough to find reasons to watch. I think everyone enjoyed your 3 recalls, I know I did. Now I seem to want to get behind the future players, I remember being excited to see what Patrick was when he appeared in his first few games. I also enjoyed the early success Hart had….these two instances at least brought hope. Going forward to this year I’m hoping there are some surprises and some of the young talent can supplant some of the stale players who have been part of the Atrocious crap I’ve had to endure the last two years. I know most think the roster is set….but considering how bad it is, I would have to think even management is hoping some of the youngsters step up. |

what a shock. Wonder what the offense is ranked. - hello it's me 2050
Other then Chicago and maybe SJ, those teams below the Flyers have some elite young talent on the horizon…do we ? It’s one thing to have some brutal contracts….it’s another to have little to no answers on the horizon. |

Chuck has no plan that is the big issue with me. There is no rhyme or reason for doing what he does.
When you look at the conference landscape then look at the Flyers all one can do is shake their head.

When he was hired I had my doubts, just based on his Minnesota stay…..but I figured maybe he had learned and would do a better job here. While some of his moves have been ok and if anything understandable he has made to many mistakes and dumb moves. Fletch’s screw ups have driven this team the opposite way of mediocracy. He’s on this streak, that every decision he seems to make turns to poop….but I guess the revamped analytics department is win. Not that he seems to use it. |

So before the last two seasons when was the last time? 2010? Isn't that the point? You bring up memories from the early 2000's. Don't you get that. If I believe in the path that the team is taking. I'll sit through some down seasons. If they start developing young players better, I can find some entertainment in that. When is the last time this team has been relevant?

Got off to a solid start with braun and niskanen. Figured ok see if he learned anything from his previous gig. Then All bad after those moves. Though one of his first moves was Stolarz for Talbot which was not good.
He clearly doesn't use his analytics team or they are the worst in any sport. His last 3 signings are the definition of an analytical nightmare. That being said they are only a tool. Not a be all end all.

Plenty of unique moments since 2010, Ghosts historical season when he should have won the calder, Giroux's Hat trick game to clinch a playoff spot against the Rangers in 2018 (with the crowd chanting MVP MVP), JAGR coming to Philly over Pittsburgh for a season, Plenty of reasons I CHOOSE to still watch them, You do understand no one holds a gun to my head making me go to or watch the games right, If I didn't enjoy it I wouldn't do it. That's where the question of such animosity to this franchise comes from or why there is still such an occasion with the team if its all just negative. I absolutely miss the better teams, the coaches who I felt had a little more authority on the team (I expect some of this out of Torts), but I still choose to watch and find ways to enjoy it. 1993 Phillies are still my favorite team, I can tell you every player at every position like its the current season, They failed to win it all, but I wouldn't want to have missed that run, nor would I want to forget it happened. It was fun, entertaining and just absolutely great times. |
