Instead of the 2023 1st rounder do you think they would take Tyler Boucher? Born in Arizona and has seemingly really stepped it up recently. - andyman998

To Arizona -
Thomson or JBD
Sokolov
Tyler Boucher
2nd round pick in 2024
Zaitsev
To Ottawa -
Chychrun
3rd round pick in 2024 - andyman998
When was this? He struggled in the NCAA and in the OHL. He hasn't played since so i can't see where he has stepped it up unless you're talking about him walking up a flight of stairs. |

Apparently they've been pumping his tires over his performance in summer training camps. I believe it's genuine, don't think it's to boost the player's potential trade value. Dorion will keep Boucher as a 'trust the process' piece. I hope it works out, we'll see how the player does this year because it hasn't looked great on paper so far. |

Sens development camp and most recently the team USA camp were raving about him. Not actual games of course but at least some positive news. Lol
Being a local product Arizona might place a little more value on him. Not many Arizona born players in the NHL outside Matthews. |
|
|
|
Wasn't Batherson also on the 2018 squad, along with Formenton?
Also, not sure if I mis-read the comment about Ottawa retaing some salary on Zaitsev in 2023-24, but I thought you have to retain salary on all the years remaining on the contract. |

Correct. The development camp and USA camp Boucher was said to have taken significant strides. Positive news. Let's not forget Jake Sanderson rose up draft rankings without playing actual games. These kinds of things do matter and scouts take notice.
If I was the Yotes, I'd prefer the 1st rounder instead of Boucher though. |

Development camps don't mean a whole lot though. I mean Amadeus Lombardi (Wings 4th round pick in this draft) scored a hat trick with one of the goals being a Michigander goal in one game at the Wings development camp but although nice to see, it doesn't make him a better prospect than Kasper, Edvinsson, Johansson ect... plus you would kind of expect older players (some that have already been to those camps before) to do a bit better than younger guys that were just drafted. Those things are mainly to teach the kids how to train, eat, act and live like pro hockey players. For returning players maybe a chance to see if they have progressed in those areas.
It does seem like the Sens management and media are grasping at anything to try and make Boucher look good and justify the pick. That one media guy (forget his name) even tweeted some BS about Marco Kasper playing with Boucher for the 67's this season. Kasper had to tweet out that he was playing for Rogle in the SHL next season not the OHL. I mean he's already playing against men there so why on earth would he go to the OHL against weaker competition. It's either NHL (not likely), AHL or SHL for him...OHL was never being considered by him or the Wings. |

That was a different situation. This was a draft where plenty of kids played very little and some not at all. Those that did play, scouts had something to watch and they likely did watch every shift multiple times on video. Hopefully we never see another draft like that. |

While everyone is trying to pump the tires of Tyler Boucher.....he was just cut from the USA roster for WJ's! Interesting...... |

lol ya think.....I don't know if you saw PD on Overdrive 2 weeks ago, but he pumped his tires like he was going to be in the starting line up this year lol. So when you cant make the USA roster that is depleted because some players chose not to go.......yikes....like you said.....tough sell!

You might change your mind on Boucher now that he cant make the USA roster for WJ's when it comes to that 1st rounder.

Was surprised they chose Boucher, especially with Sillinger still on the board. |

So much for those positive narratives on his game this summer. What a silly pick. Let's hope he makes this upcoming season a shot a redemption. |

20yo top five picks are worth a lot. At that age, people still pay for their potential. And yes. He IS worth more (to Ottawa) than Chychrun. As a Sens fan, you’re telling me you’d trade Sanderson straight up for Chychrun? You’re nuts |

No i missed that. Yeah seems like enough players that were there in Edmonton in December, won't be there this time. I would imagine a lot of the top prospects that are drafted don't want to risk getting injured right before training camp and throw their chances to make NHL teams out the window. |

Yeah, i was like wtf when they drafted him. It's one thing to reach for a guy that is ranked mid to late first round with a top 10 pick but an entirely different thing to reach for a guy ranked end of 1st but mostly 2nd or 3rd round by most.

But now, you have coaches at the WJ level that are thinking what everyone else did.....yet Ottawa reached like no team would!

He needs to dominate in the OHL this upcoming season. Fans arent stupid, they wont listen to him telling everyone how great he is, when he cant even make the cut for a depleted WJ team!

I don't think PD is doing this kid any favors by trying to pump him up to the media so much. He's just putting even more of a spotlight on him and put more pressure on him. They should have just let it go and let fans kind of forget about him for a while until he turns pro and has some success (if that happens). You don't hear much about the Habs pumping that kid that didn't want to get drafted. They let that die down and don't really mention him. PD should have done the same. |

If Kleven has a strong WJC can he opt to sign with the Sans and come to training camp rather than do another year at North Dakota? |
|

Word on the street was that Boucher was having an excellent camp but was cut for a "retaliatory" hit on Aidan Thompson. |
