In spite of this, people will flip out all year long when they announce guys getting sent down all year, because literally 90% of people who comment are dumb

And we all think we’re in the 10%

All that "paper transactions" means is that, as far as the league is concerned, those two players would be "sent down" to Hartford. They wouldn't actually have to report and would remain with the NHL club. They'd effectively make their minor league salary for one day every offseason but never actually be playing in the minors.

I understand what they're doing; the question I responded to was how many times can they shuffle the same players "up and down" to the AHL in a season. I don't know the answer to that. Obviously with guys on ELCs you can do it more than once.

I don't believe there is any sort of cap on how many times guys can be called up/sent down. ELC's don't require waivers so the Rangers can move them around all they want.

I believe this is correct. Players out of their ELC's need only clear waivers one time being sent down and one other time being called up. After that, there's no waivers for that player for the remainder of the season.

I also do not believe a player gets paid an AHL salary in these "paper moves" unless they actually play an AHL game.

That's good if true. I can't imagine the paper move sitting well with the player if they are constantly having a fluctuating salary.

Isn't that only on a "two-way" contract?

I'm not 100% positive, but I'd lean towards saying that they probably do make their AHL salary if they're sent down, whether it's on paper or not. They're off the active NHL roster for whatever period of time, so I don't think they'd still be getting paid NHL money. I have no idea if the team can elect to continue to pay them their NHL rate, but that seems it'd be a no-no.

An ELC is essentially a two-way contract.

If you look at the breakdown, Schneider gets paid a base salary of $832,500 in the NHL and $80,000 in the minors

I always thought this was the way of it, as well.
And, despite having just spent the better part of an hour perusing the NHL-PA CBA, I didn't locate any clause that spelled out how this works.

I am uncertain how it works, but players basically get paid per game. It's how they determine the taxes are taken out from their pay.

I've seen an NHL pay stub and how everything is broken down. It's a sad sight really once the escrow destroys the pay-day.

Real strange year ahead, or another year with same or more uncertainties! The talent is all here to push the envelope. Theres seems to be chemistry within the group so just fit the pieces in the right slot and we can have a fluid, tape to tape crisp passes to further open up the ice. The by in has to be 100%.
My 2022/2023 lineup

Kreider Zibanajed Kaako
Panarin Trochek Kravtsov
Lafreniere Chytil Blais
Culley Goodrow Reaves.

Lindgren Fox
Robertson Troube

In order of what i bolded:

- They are going to give Laf every chance to play in the top 6 (on RW i guess)
- Miller is not getting bumped down to the 3rd pairing for Robertson (or anyone). If anything I could see them trying him with Fox at some point. The sky is the limit for him
- Halak is our backup

AND I'm going make the maybe not so bold prediction that Miller has the best season over season improvement of anyone who was on the roster last year. That includes Laf who i think is going to be great

It was definitely the right thing to say. Too bad he didn't call out Arthur Staple by name. Of course, my comprehension of Russian is almost non-existent, so he might have said something to that effect. But "Arthur Staple" in Russian is still "Arthur Staple".
