I normally don't question Yzerman as his track record as a gm is better than most.... he drafted Seider and the crowd gasped, as did media... Yzerman knows what he's doing...and I like the veterans he brought in... Im in St Louis and 9 of 10 fans hate that Perron is gone, and all feel he was arguably the Blues best player last season and clearly was in the playoffs... he brings it each game and will be liked in Detroit... Chariot and Copp were overpaid, but its free agency, you gotta lure the player..and I feel Chariot and Matta are major improvements over Dekeyser.... and can mask a bit of Hroneks issues in the defensive end.....at least Yzerman didn't get in on the Tkachuk nonsense, 9.5 over 8 is a gross overpayment for a guy who just put up what will be his best season....... I haven't a problem with Detroits off-season thus far, they are improved

My thoughts exactly... Yes, Yzerman probably overpaid a bit for Copp and even more so for Chariot. But it's free agency... and that's what it took to get the talent here. This team is better now offensively and I'd argue even more so defensively. In terms of the defensemen that left... Leddy was old, slow and prone to turnovers. DeKeyser flat out sucked. I think Staal was good at his role but it's not a back-breaker of any sort. Stecher was an average defender (at best) whom they won't even miss.
Husso is a big upgrade in goal over Greiss any day of the week. AND... Yzerman has managed his cap space very, very well. He's still in good shape next season too, but with more talent. On the offensive side, I think bringing in Perron will help special teams too. Special Teams will make or break their chances of making the playoffs this year. But overall... this is a team on the rise. I'm good with the changes Yzerman made.
