If it were 1 for 1 I’d agree with you. From that one part of the trade you’re right. But the trade as a whole was a gross overpayment for what’s at best a lateral move. Add in how many assets they’ve given up between Tkachuk, and 20 games from Giroux and Chiarot and the Panthers future looks terrible. Plus that defense looks a lot weaker now.

Weager is really good and not a lot of people are talking about him because Huberdeau had a monster year. Panthers swapped top line forwards at the cost of a really big defensive piece and no cap space to make more moves to fix it.

I know weager is also a good player and he is going to be a UFA and will want a raise

If you add up what Florida gave up in previous trades for rentals yeah it doesn't look great but they at least were able to sign MT and he and Barkov will be scary

I think Calgary got the better end because they can extend either Huber and weager or just one and trade the other for more assets or both for even more assets

But don't think it was a bad deal for Florida
