I'm fine with losing both holtz and Mercer and a 1st. we don't know if holtz will even pan out. and tkachuk is a bonkers upgrade over Mercer as a winger, though I'd love to keep him as a 3rd line center.
Really want to keep Bratt, Luke and Nemec, but Tkachuk will likely be better than all of them anywAy. |

So when reality sets in and we end up not being the team that trades for Tkachuk, I wonder what Fitz does, if anything. I wonder if he tries to go after a winger on a team that needs to clear cap, aka a Tarasenko from the Blues(really shouldve done this last summer) or something along those lines.
Wouldn't be shocked if he just stands pat though with our current roster outside of a cap dump(AJ or Tatar) being shipped out to fit all of our RFAs in. |

If he doesn't get traded here (I'm about 99% sure he won't be in NJ) then it's not Fitzy's fault. We offered more money than Columbus and JG wasn't his fault either. No GM can control where players want to go. He's made substantial offers to bring both of these guys in and if they don't want to be here then that's on them not Fitzy.
I'm fine with playing the waiting game. The idea that NJ was going to win the Cup this year is moronic whether we land Matty or not. We have more holes than a top line scoring winger.
We have the #4 ranked farm system in the league. Nemec and Luke will very likely be full time NHLers next year. Holtz has only had NINE nhl games but scored almost a point per game in the ahl this year. We can still resign Bratt and likely see another 60+ pt season out of him.
There's reasons to be excited about NJ even if we don't get Tkachuk. Some of these Devs fans are just being drama queens. |

I wouldn’t even be surprised if it doesn’t cost that much. Teams are only going to trade for him knowing he will sign a long term extension.

Fully agree. I don't blame Fitz at all, we know he's trying. Overall I like the offseason that hes had a lot so far, all 3 trades have been very good and the VV contract is good. Still not a fan of the Palat contract but he's still an upgrade to this roster and will make us better.
I would love Tkachuk, and I personally would give up 2 of Sharangovich/Mercer/Holtz along with our '23 1st to make that happen(with an extension agreed upon), but I really don't think he would sign here, so there's zero chance Fitz makes that move obviously.(I would also give up Bratt for him, but idk how much more I'm comfortable adding in addition to Bratt, so I'd prefer to do a package of what I said before.)
I'm very excited about this team going forward as it is right now, both on the roster and in the pipeline, and I still believe Fitz is working the phones and trying to improve for this season. Whether something comes to fruition or not, we'll see. I just don't think he'll overreach to make something happen. |

Nope. We fill his spot with one of the busts we drafted in the last 5 years. |

Watch Fitz trade only Bratt+Severson for MT. Feel like Calgary is in a tough spot especially if they don’t go full rebuild. You have a player that publicly wants out and has a crazy high QO. They don’t want to go into training camp with this. Your list of teams is very very short and that’s assuming he extends with said teams. |

Jesper Boqvist has accepted and signed his qualifying offer, 1 year $874k. Two-way contract, he only gets $70K if hes in the AHL. |

What’s up with him? I feel like he’s gotten such little time in the big leagues but whenever he did he played very well. Why hasn’t he been able to stick around? |

2nd and a 3rd for Bjorkstrand feels so low. Wish we would've gotten him. |

And there he goes, Tkachuk is being traded to Florida and is signing an 8 year extension, 9.5M AAV. Thank god that nonsense can stop now. Huberdeau, Weegar, a prospect, and a 1st going back to Calgary. Wow. |

Facts. One of Nico/Hughes + unprotected 1st would of been the main pieces. If Calgary can extend both players then they stole this one. |

So since we're pretty much going into the season with what we have, outside of one or maybe two dump trades, our forward group looks something like:
Palat-Hughes-Mercer
Sharangovich-Hischier-Bratt
Tatar-Haula-Zetterlund/Holtz
Wood-Boqvist-Bastian
Johnsson-McLeod-Foote
I assume something along the lines of that top 12 is what we go with(can swap around the wingers in the top 6, theres honestly a lot of combinations that can be tried out there), and i think Foote will push for a spot in the bottom 6 and create competition in camp.(possible he takes Woods spot if he's still not healthy?). I would personally swap Mercer and Holtz and anchor Holtz to Jack to start, but Fitz said a big part of acquiring Haula was so Mercer can play in a top 6 winger role. So that pretty much locks in our top 6 wingers and doesn't give an opening to Holtz, unless Sharangovich is dropped to the 3rd line instead.
Johnsson has a good shot of being moved and there's a chance McLeod is flat out terminated/suspended/not on the team depending on the outcome of the Hockey Canada investigation. |
