The more I think about it, the Pens roster may be too jammed for a prospect to break through. Sure you can waive an Archibald or Friedman, but they always seem unwilling to and want to preserve their depth over playing the waiver exempt guy. 8 D who need waivers doesn't leave room for any surprises.
Guys like DOC and Smith would seem to have a fair shot, but can still go down this year until they play more games. There is a spot for a forward at least for now. - Tojo.
The plan all along was to give each line an offensive guy and a big body:
Dumoulin-Letang
Pettersson (or Joseph)-Petry
T.Smith-Rutta
Friedman-Ruhwedel
One of Pettersson or Joseph might be gone via trade. If so hope they unload McGinn together in order to get Boeser or Garland.

Given that Hextall and Anaheim have been trading partners in the past, I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade with them - especially since Anaheim only has four D under contract. Although I'd love a blockbuster that sends Zucker "home" to SoCal, we could see something like POJ and the rights to KK for Maxime Comtois and a pick. Were that to occur, we could have
Jake - Sid - Rackell
Zucker - Geno - Rust
Comtois - Carter - Nylander
McGinn - Teddy - Archibald
Dumo - Letang
Petterson - Petry
Smith - Ruuta

That is a wise move by Hextall. I would believe there still may be one more trade before the season. Put Rakell on line 1 then you need 1 more big body for line 2. Carter would be the big body on his line and Poehling I believe would be with Bluegar or DOC.

I like what I saw from Comtois with his net front ability. I think he would be a solid player to bring in. |

If Comtois is available this is a great idea. My only concern with him and frankly every other player from the 2018 Canada world jr team. 8 players are going to have their lives turned upside down by next season. I'm not trading for Comtois unless I have 100% confirmation that he was not involved. |

Agree 100%. Going to be 8 NHLers in a real bad way soon. |

Well, he is one of the ones who has yet to issue a response from him, his agent, or the team he plays for. |

A girl says she was sexually assaulted by 8 members of the 2018 Canadian world junior team. They are reopening the investigation and calling every player on that team in for questioning. Some big time players on that squad |

Poehling is younger than all those guys. - Tojo.
What does him being younger have anything to do with the type of player he is? |

I think Tojo was eluding that Poehling is younger and already in the NHL and has room to grow. I do agree that I wanna see more of our prospects in the NHL. Idk about the Archibald signing or Rutta. I think it would have been better if we made those trades at the draft. I think Rutta wouldn't have been signed. |

I’m a big Ruhwedel fan. He may be the best bargain 3rd pairing RHD there is not in an ELC. The Rutta signing continues to puzzle me, moreso with obtaining Petry. |

At this point I wonder if Pettersson still gets dealt and they gamble with POJ on the 2nd pair or believe that Rutta can because he supposedly plays both sides.
I’m definitely puzzled and underwhelmed by their moves at forward, not to mention Kap is still likely to get signed. |

I highly doubt Petterson gets moved now unless they think both POJ and Smith can play. But I'd rather have Petterson at this point. |

Also we're gonna know today that Kap is gonna go to arbitration? He surely isn't signing that 840,000 contract. If he did I'd be highly surprised. |

Oh I agree, that's why I said "gamble." Something has to give though. That's still nine dmen they have up there. Ty Smith is still waiver exempt, but unless he blows everyone away in camp I think he's definitely heading to WBS and I'd say it's highly unlikely Friedman or Ruhwedel make it through waivers.
I feel like Hextall went from being this very conservative GM to trying to be like JR and he's struggling a bit. |

I agree. I don't think they will get rid of Pettersson. I think the trades show they have some confidence in Pettersson. I think they are preparing for Dumo to walk in next year's FA. |

Honestly other that the Rutta signing I like our defense. Petry was a guy I wanted if we lost Letang (Klingberg was my first choice), and now we have both Letang and Petry. |

Yeah, that's a good point. I didn't think about that. They really should just move him, but obviously that would make Letang unhappy.

I mean on paper Petterson seems a good fit for Petry I think they can eat big minutes. If Dumo/Tanger are having a rough night I would have no problem giving the Pet pair more minutes that night. |

Yea Dumo I expect to be gone after this season and they MAY have to sign a replacement if POJ and Smith can't handle 2nd and third pair next season. |

Idk if he is struggling tbh. I think he has a plan in place. Plus after the past few seasons and the amount of injuries we have sustained I think he may be setting up tons of depth for anticipation of injuries this season. |

Whether I like the moves or not, Hextall has a clear identity he's shooting for. My concern is whether or not that identity with click as well as what he's trying to do with the forwards. There's no rhyme or reason there.
The fact depth scoring was an issue last year, what he's done so far is a step backwards. Caggiula and Archibald are barely NHL players, and there were/are better players available in their price-range.
I have no real issue with Poehling reclamation idea, but it should have just been him, not the other guys signed. |

But there were and are better depth options at forward than the ones he's signed.
