Gotta view this move in a vacuum with the next 1-2 trades that will be made. On the surface this trade stinks, but let’s grade it all once the dust settles. |

Barnaby when RW agrees with you, you know it’s bad. |

RW please tell me, what did you expect to get in return? Marino is a nice player but way overpaid at $4.4 million for the next 5 years.
Yes, cap space is important, so I think this is a good trade for both teams. |

Marino should have at least got a 2nd + prospect.
Smith is a good prospect, don’t get me wrong, but this is just a terrible trade. |

Problem is Marino's cap hit is at least 2 million a year too high and 2 years too long! That was the biggest issue with him.
They did get a prospect plus a third so that's not way off! |

I guess. I’d still like to see the Pens ship out Petts or Dumo, free up more space. |

In what world does Marino and his over inflated cap hit get you anything more than what Hextall got in return? I can't imagine there is a single GM in this league that would give anything more...even when packaged with some other player. I have zero issue with this salary dump disguised as a trade. |

He’s young a developing. There’s definite potential.
I just hope they didn’t free up this space for Larsson lol

I think he expects to trade to Oilers or JR and get a good deal in return finally after we have overspent for such players in years past. |

I think with all of these ridiculous trades at the deadline and guys like Gudbranson getting 4x4, the pens could had gotten more. Maybe Hextall really wanted Smith, which would lower the draft pick. Instead of a 2nd rounder, he took a 3rd and a “prospect”.
The 3rd round pick can easily be thrown into any deal as a sweetener. Kind of wish the pens made that deal for Debrincat if they planned on restocking draft picks with these trades |
