Well it didn’t happen so we don’t know lol I’m saying it was expected by them, the insiders, IF he wanted to leave.

Don’t you think the Hawks want to trade him? And would do whatever it took to do it? Why on earth would they not want to do that? They want to lose games they don’t want him on the team

I go back to, name one team that has ever retained over $5 million for an entire season. They’ll probably get the same if not more at the deadline and save some money.

It takes defensemen longer to develop, or that's what every scout says at least. Most goals ever recorded by a defenseman under 21 in the SHL and won Salming Trophy as SHL best defenseman. Also won the Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award for best rookie in training camp.

He's still only 21 years old. When McDonagh was 21 he was just leaving Wisconsin to turn pro, still plenty of time for him to be what we hope.

The thing is tho he has no room until when? Trouba leaves? Unless he can play the left side. And even then there are two LH guys already that need to play. You kill a players value by doing nothing with him too. I thought for sure one of those D prospects would get traded for some help by now. Nothing against carpenter, but you can’t tell me they couldn’t find someone who needs some D for a center on an ELC to play 4C.

Totally different circumstance with the team trading him tho. It didn’t happen so we’ll never know. All I know if we get him at the TDL we’re closer to the cup than we are without him. At some point we have to be willing to give up some of the future for the now. There isn’t room for everyone anyway. And coming off of the ECF is the time to make said move imo.

Any trade that didn’t include Laf Miller Schneider or Othmann im good with it. Shesty too obv and the core guys. Cuylle would be tough I’ll grant you that one

This would be sound thinking, but it doesn't account for an injury to Kane while playing for Chicago.

Ya but just the same we don’t want to lose one of them, CHI has no need to trade him right now unless they’re getting one of them. Coming to a team for an entire year, Kane might only want to play in one place (and we don’t even know if that’s the Rangers). To go play somewhere for 30 games, he might be willing to expand his list and that would drive up the cost to acquire him.

Brooks said something about gaining cap space as the season goes along. When did that start? I never knew that haha. Because they can get Kane with less than 50% retained in that case. Someone is going to get him and I really hope it’s us. I’m going to bite my nails all year waiting

Injuries can happen at anytime though. On the flip side, imagine we give up Kakko+ or Cuylle and a 1st+ and Kane gets Sammy Blais’d.

I’m rooting for him bc it will only increase the return. I don’t think his future is with the NYR. I think GG likes a different style of player and we have that in Schneider.
- nyrangers9479

I agree 100%. Nils was drafted before we got Fox. Nils and Fox are the same player and you only need 1 and Fox is the best of that type of player that we have. Schneider is certainly more the type GG likes, but won't surprise me when Nils is moved and succeeds.

I just wonder if Robertson without any NHL experience will have what it takes to beat out Nils and Jones for that last spot or if he'll come in after some more seasoning like McDonagh did when he played that 1st half year in Hartford.

I kind of agree with that. I think we lost our chance at a low cost deal unfortunately. It was all in Kanes lap. I bethcha he wants to get more teams involved as a goodwill gesture before leaving. I get it. It’s fair. Gives the Hawks a better return. Gun to his head he’s picking us tho to play with Panarin in NYC

You do have to give them ‘23 first which is a big asset in a deal they’re all saying. But not many are going to be willing to do that, Drury should for Kane. I’m not sure I do it for anyone else

I really don't think the Rangers had their sights on anything other than signing Trocheck, he was their main target and there was nothing to any rumours about anyone else

I thought for sure he was gonna be over 6 AAV for whoever got him. But I guess that’s why it was 7 years

He did say the fit mattered to him so maybe he got other higher offers. He obviously fit in the perfect spot, and he gets to play with Panarin which is a nice bonus for him

Gallant only has about 2 years left so Nils just has to wait him out.

True. That's EXACTLY why Chicago shouldn't hold onto Kane until the trade deadline if they have every intention to tank. Injuries happen all the time and why risk a return?
